High Comics Related Item for the week ending November 25, 2006

Bought by comiclink. That always hurts. Especially when Josh sends out the "you know you could have made more money by selling at Comiclink email" lol

The GPA high for this book is $22,500.00.

INCREDIBLE HULK # 181 CGC GRADE 9.8 WHITE PAGES

Final Bid: US $15,099.95 Seller: razorshave1( 215)

Here's the description:

"HULK 181 CGC 9.8 WHITE

"FIRST APPEARRANCE OF WOLVERINE.

"Yes you read it correctly, I'm selling one of the seven Hulk 181's graded by the CGC 9.8. There is only one higher in 9.9. And considering the fact that this one has White pages (not all of the other 6 9.8's have white pages), this is truly the second best HULK 181 in existence.

"GRADED 9.8

"WHITE PAGES

"Registration # **********

"NO NOTES ON THE LABEL.

"UNIVERSAL GRADE

"LOW RESERVE CONSIDERING WHERE I HAVE SEEN THESE SELL.

"CGC HOLDER IS FLAWLESS.

"On Nov-16-06 at 14:24:10 PST, seller added the following information:

"JUST AN FYI FOR THOSE REALLY INTERESTED.

"I HAVE SEEN OTHER 9.8'S IN HULK 181, AND EVEN OWNED MORE THAN ONE. THIS IS THE ONLY WHITE PAGER I HAVE EVER OWNED AND SEEN. SO I KNOW FOR SURE THAT 3-4 OTHER COPIES DO NOT HAVE WHITE PAGES.

"THAT DOES NOT MEAN IT IS THE ONLY ONE IN EXISTENCE ALTHOUGH THAT MAY VERY WELL BE THE CASE. WHEN YOU SPEAK TO PROFESSIONALS IN THE BUSINESS, THEY GENERALLY SAY THERE "MUST BE" MORE WHITE PAGE VERSIONS OF THE 7 HULK 181'S. THEN WHEN YOU ASK THEM WHEN THEY SAW THEM, OR IF THEY KNOW FOR SURE, THEY BACK OFF THE CLAIM.

"SINCE WHITE PAGE BOOKS ARE GENERALLY A MERE FRACTION OF ANY GRADES POPULATION OF ANY BOOK, I SUGGEST THAT THIS IS EITHER THE ONLY 9.8 WITH WHITE PAGES IN EXISTENCE, OR ONE OF MAYBE TWO. BUT DO YOUR HOMEWORK. I'M NOT SURE IF CGC CAN PROVIDE THIS INFO OF NOT.

"TOGETHER WITH IT'S OVERALL CONDITION, THIS BOOK IS TRULY THE SECOND HIGHEST GRADE HULK 181 IN EXISTENCE.

"On Nov-16-06 at 14:27:47 PST, seller added the following information:

"ALSO, I DO BUSINESS WITH JOSH AT COMICLINK AS WELL IN CASE ANYONE IS WORRIED AND WANTS ANOTHER REFERENCE. E-MAIL ME IF YOU WANT MY NAME TO RUN PAST JOSH.

"On Nov-16-06 at 19:02:29 PST, seller added the following information:

"Another note to keep in mind. This book is one of the ealiest Hulk 181's to receive the 9.8 grade. For those of you who have followed the CGC and some of the arguments regarding grading, Overstreet standards, etc., you know that CGC grading now, although tough, was even tougher when they first started. As you see from the CGC population of books, there are very many 9.4's and 9.6s. What the CGC census does not tell you is how many of these books are re-grades where the owners of these books attempt to get them graded higher. And every time a book changes hands, or a holder gets damaged, some people try again and again for re-grades. The census does not accurately depict the number of actual books in a particular grade. Bottom line is that this book may very well be a borderline 9.9 with it's White pages and flawless appearrance. I'm just discussing the more valid points being made from e-mails I am receiving from people.

"On Nov-18-06 at 22:47:13 PST, seller added the following information:

"Well I just heard from the guy I bought this book from. Says he bought the book at the San Diego Comic con in 1994 for $250.00. Nice! He had it slabbed back when there was only one other Hulk 181 9.8 in existence. He says it's the only White Pager he's ever seen as well. So this is the second 9.8 ever slabbed. I saw (may have owned it as well) the first one and this copy is better. Anyway, it's funny how word gets out about these high dollar auctions. Brings people to the table. Anyway, I'll make sure the new owner knows who I am, and who the slabber was so that the book can keep it's history with it."
