September 2015 Comic Market Report: Werewolf By Night #32 CGC 9.8 Sells for $15,000 at ComicConnect

wwbn32

This month is all about ComicConnect's recent auction. As always, there were some really great books and really great results. I am going to look ahead briefly to this fall's Heritage Signature auction. I can't help myself! There's too much cool stuff!

Exclamation points!

On with the show!

ComicConnect

This ComicConnect auction was full of cool books and one simply jaw-dropping result. Let's take a look.

Werewolf By Night #32 CGC 9.8 Sells for $15,000

Yeah, that number is 100% correct. I didn't slip a decimal place anywhere. For this one sale, Moon Knight has a more valuable first appearance than Wolverine. I bet you didn't see that coming.

Why? Much lower census numbers in 9.8 and a hype upswing as people speculate on a film or TV appearance, apparently. It doesn't take much sometimes.

Also, keep in mind, this was an auction. There were at least two people willing to go into this range.

Early Detectives

If you went all in on these Detectives, you would have a killer, killer collection of Early Batman appearances. All of these books did really well. These books don't sell very often so when they do, they jump. All of these are up 25-50% over comparable sales over the past few years.

Such a great set of books.

Hulk Smash

I'm never going to stop using that joke. Anyway, another month, another Hulk #1 sells for a fat pile of cash. In this case, a Incredible Hulk #1 CBCS VF: 8.0 sold for $59,000. This book continues to roll. Buy 'em now!

Superman #1

The SUPERMAN #1 CGC GD 2.0 Sold For $88,000. Two things about that:

  • That's 10% more than the (incredibly ugly) Superman #1 CBCS 2.5 sold for earlier this year. Make of that what you will.
  • We continue to inch towards the day when all unrestored, complete Superman #1s are worth $100,000

All Star #8

This All Star Comics #8 CBCS 5.5 sold for 10% more than a similarly graded copy earlier this year. Make of that what you will.

This remains an undervalued book.

Heritage

I've already talked about the Green Lantern 76 cover, but the rest of the auction is killer. Between the best selection of Silver Age Marvels since Doug sold his collection to an incredible selection of original art it's going to be a fun one to watch, for sure.

I'm personally tracking 10-15 lots which I'd like to win. Based on how much focus is going to be on this auction, I'll be lucky if I win any of them.
