Superman 1 CGC 1.0 UNRESTORED 1939 (Action Comics)

For sale in this auction is a Superman 1 in Unrestored CGC 1.0 condition. This comic has cream to off-white pages, and the CGC label notes "very minor amount of glue on back cover".

Superman 1 was published close to 70 years ago and is the 4th most valuable comic book of all-time according to the Overstreet price guide, with a NM- guide value of $360,000! This comic not only contains the origin of Superman, but is also the first time an entire comic book was dedicated to just one super-hero. It's success changed the face of comics from that point on.

To date, only 18 unrestored copies of this comic have ever been graded by CGC. Only 18!!! There are actually less CGCed unrestored Superman 1s out there than there are unrestored Action Comics 1s!! Restored Superman 1s (while far from common themselves) tend to show up for sale from time to time, but unrestored copies are truly rare! If you have been looking to purchase an unrestored Superman 1, here's your chance. You may not see another one for a long time!

According to the latest Overstreet guide, 2.0 guide value for this comic is $19,500. (No 1.0 guide value is listed) However, guide value is pretty much be thrown out the window when talking about an unrestored Superman 1 in any grade anyway. The only unrestored Superman 1 to sell publicly this past year was a 5.0 that sold in January '07 for $83,650! (5.0 guide value is $48,750) In the past 3 years I'm only aware of five unrestored Superman 1s that have been available for sale in any grade, and all five sold for considerably over guide.
