The $1,000,000 Barrier- Captain America Comics #1 San Francisco Copy Sells for $915,000

The dust has settled and the Captain America Comics #1 San Francisco copy sold for $915,000. While that's a big number and is one of the top ten comic sales of all time (to be added to the list at #10), the $1,000,000 club remains the domain of only three books- Action Comics #1, Detective #27 and Amazing Fantasy #15.

Unlike the eBay eBay All Star #8, I really thought this book would crack seven figures. I wanted the Wonder Woman book to do well, but realized there wasn't much in the way of sales history to really justify the $1,000,000 price target. This book, on the other hand, under-performed what you would expect it to do based on lower grade sales. $915,000 is nothing to sneeze at and the value of the Allentown copy now needs to be reevaluated, but the fact remains I expected this book to sell for over $1,000,000.

It will be really interesting to see which book outside of the big three will crack that magical barrier. I would think Captain America Comics #1 would have been a good candidate, but maybe it will take a, Marvel comics #1, Superman #1 or Batman #1 in the right grade to add a fourth title to the $1,000,000 club.
