Looking Back on 2017- 5 Fun Additions to My Personal Collection

Confession time: I spent most of the year recovering from finishing my Daredevil 1-157 set.

That basically means I didn't really make any big purchases this year.

Even still, I did add to my collection in a lot of fun ways. For one, I've been building out multiple modern/copper runs– things like Tom King's Vision, Simonson's Thor, and All Star Superman and a bunch of other runs are coming along quite nicely. I also finally finished my Byrne FF run..

In addition to those, I've also managed to pick off a few new pedigree Bronze/Silver Age books, which is always fun.

What follows are five highlights from the year. It's heavy on the Silver/Bronze/Pedigree side of things, but it does include one newer-than-new book just to prove I'm actually out there buying that stuff.

Hulk 162 CGC 9.2 White Mountain

1st Wendigo and it's the White Mountain copy. I only own 3 Hulk books and 2 of them are from the White Mountain collection. That's how I roll. This book is crazy looking in person, by the way. Great preservation.

Swamp Thing 1 CGC 9.2 White Mountain

What a cool book this is. It's two of my favorite things in comics combined into one, Wrightson + White Mountain.

I'd love to get my hands on the rest of the White Mountain Swamp Things, by the way. I want to build out the Wrightson run and now that I've got the White Mountain #1 I'd love to fill out the rest of the run in similar style.

Daredevil 41 CGC 9.6 White Mountain

White Mountain Daredevils are just about the toughest books I've bid on. There have been several different groupings that have come up for auction and I've only ever managed to win 4. Thankfully, one of them is this one, which is impossible great.

Fantastic Four 40 CGC 9.0

I love this early Daredevil crossover. #39 is the classic cover for me, but this book is great too and now I've got the pair.

Mister Miracle #1 CGC 9.8 Tom King Signature Series

See? I do buy this stuff. Tom King is great and his Mister Miracle series started on such a high note I was chomping at the bit to get a 9.8 copy of this book. I was able to snag this signature series copy and I couldn't be happier. Great stuff.

That's it for my 2017 highlights. I'm pretty sure there's going to be at least one significant Golden Age book in my future. Keep your eyes peeled for that. I'm also looking at Fantastic Four and Tales of Suspense runs, so something interesting might shake out there. We'll see where it goes.
