Highlights from The March Comic Connect Event Auction

Sorry this is a bit late, but it's been a busy few weeks in the hobby and for me personally. Anyway, let's take a look at the latest ComicConnect auction before it closes. There's some good stuff here.

Obviously, the Amazing Fantasy # 15 CGC 9.0 is the big ticket item. I feel like AF15 has had a kick in the pants recently in terms of value in high grades. It felt like it was stuck in a holding pattern for a while and not it's started to bust out a little bit. As late as a year ago, a 9.4 sold for around $400,000. We just had a couple of 9.2s sell for around that and 9.0s are starting to come in at around $200,000. If this keeps up I'll back away from my claim that the 9.4 Hulk #1 might be the most valuable CGC graded Silver Age book (even though Hulk #1 is ridiculously hot still.)

The Daredevil run is bonkers. 9.6, 9.8s, pedigrees… all perfectly preserved and with good QP. I really have a hard time picking favorites. The Daredevil #2 CGC 9.8 Pacific Coast has to be the best copy in the world, for example. Same goes for the Daredevil #17 CGC 9.8 Pacific Coast.

That said, the biggest popcorn book has to be the Daredevil #7 CGC 9.6. It's not perfect (the cut is off) but it's still a solid, beautifully preserved copy of one the toughest book in the whole run. It's been years since any copy above 9.2 sold so who knows where this one will end up. I'm hoping whoever wins this has a 9.4 to sell me (fingers crossed.)

I haven't followed this phenomenon as closely as I would have liked, but it's always interesting to see how high-profile CBCS books do relative to their CGC counterparts. This Hulk #1 CBCS 8.5 is one such book. It's halfway to the last CGC sale at that grade.

BTW, how well did the buyer of this copy do?

I would restore this horrible looking Superman #1. It's just that ugly.

Do you dare?

X-Men #3 CGC 9.8 Pacific Coast. PC books are pretty damn special.

I wouldn't restore this low-grade Sensation #1. I'd leave this Wonder Woman #1 alone, too.

Once I'm fully out from under the yoke of my Daredevil run (hopefully after this auction!), I'm going to buy a Superman #14. I love that book.

Classic cover alert!

I've never seen this book before.

All in all it's a fun auction. The Silver Age Marvels are just bonkers and the selection of low-grade keys makes me want to break open the piggy bank.

Of course, I'll be back to talk about the next ComicConnect auction, featuring the John Berk collection. That promises to be an epic event indeed. You don't have to get more than one or two items deep before you hit the $1,000,000 mark. Get the popcorn.
