This time around, because January was kind of boring and because of the incredible auctions we've got coming up this month, I've decided to look ahead rather than looking back at something that happened in January. To that end I'm going to preview some items from the upcoming Heritage and ComicLink auctions that I think are worth talking about. This will be fun.
At Heritage
For what it's worth, I'm not personally chasing anything at this auction. To be honest, I spent a ton of money last time around so that's just fine with me. That doesn't mean there isn't cool stuff for sale. There sure is. Let's take a look, shall we?
Frank Miller and Klaus Janson Daredevil #186 Cover Original Art
I think this is a killer cover for display. It might be the best of the later covers, at least in terms of display as a piece of original art. For two Heritage examples, the $101,000 #188 is cool and the #185 is also great, but I really like this one with the way the redline art gives some great contrast. I also love the Miller signature placement. I'm curious to see what this does.
Frank Frazetta "Death Dealer" T-Shirt Design Illustration
Did Matthew McConaughey where this shirt in Dazed and Confused? He should have.
Star Wars #1 35¢ Price Variant (Marvel, 1977) CGC NM 9.4
That's no moon… it's a $15,000 bronze age book.
Green Lantern #16 Don/Maggie Thompson Collection pedigree
I'm trying to focus my collecting a little bit and am shying away from Green Lanterns… if I was not in that mode this book would be something I'd be into in a big way. Super cool book from a pedigree that I've become quite fond of. The books are really nice and they just keep coming.
Barry Smith Marvel Comics Presents #78 Splash Page 4 Original Art
I have no great memories of this series for the story, but I do remember being continually blown away by the art. Check this page out for a prime example.
At ComicLink
I am bidding on some books at ComicLink. We'll see how that goes.
There's also a bunch of phenomenal stuff I'm not bidding on. Let's take a look at what'll be for sale.
MARVEL SUPER-HEROES SECRET WARS #4 COVER
Holy cow! I love this cover! I'm a little kid again! Secret Wars was a big deal when I was a kid and this was one of my favorite issues from the series. I loved the scene (shown on the cover) of the Hulk holding up the weight of a mountain pressing down on our heroes. I hope next owner feels much the same way.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #317 COVER
This is unquestionably one of the best covers from MacFarlane's run and t just might be my favorite cover from the run (although the Hulk cover is right there.) This will sell for a fat pile of cash.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #238 COVER
I bet this cover makes half of you feel like a kid again. Spider-Man was never my favorite but even I can admit that this is a crazy cover from a crazy key book. Many bids will be placed.
That's it for now. Know what we'll discuss in March? The results for all of these auctions. I can't wait to see how they do.
