This issue, from early 1940, is the first ever appearance of Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel was the most popular superhero in the 1940's, outselling even Superman. In 1941, he was also the first superhero character to star in a feature film, called The Adventures of Captain Marvel. With New Line Cinema having hired screenwriter John August and director Peter Segal to collaborate on the project, Captain Marvel is poised to return to the silver screen in a Shazam! movie. We can't wait! If prior superhero comic to movie mania is any indication, look for demand to increase on Captain Marvel issues. The first issue of Whiz Comics is one of the scarcest Golden Age key premiere issues with only 27 examples in any condition ever certified by CGC. With only 9 unrestored examples in total ever graded, many collectors have decided that an attractive professionally restored example is the best bet for completing their run. The Overstreet Price Guide lists this item in unrestored 7.0 for $30,500. I have buyit now at under 1/3 of that and will consider any best offers.
