Seller: comicsr4ever ( 80) Final Tally: US $65,199.00

Here's the description (complete with admitted falsehoods the provenance of the book)

"Batman #1 (DC, 1940) CGC NM- 9.2. Off-White to White Pages

One of the most coveted comics of the Golden Age, this Batman #1 is the nicest known copy in existence. According to the CGC census, this book holds the number 1 ranking in the world!

A little background about the book:

This Batman #1 has been in my family since my father, as a young boy, walked to the local dime store and bought it. He took great care of this book; it was stored safely and properly in a climate controlled environment. When he observed what he thought might be the beginning of a small spine split towards the bottom of the book, he simply had it fixed. The book was in NM- condition before he had the work done, but he believed that simple conservation work would keep this book in its pristine condition forever. From a conservation perspective, I believe he made the right long-term decision for this book. There has been no work done to the cover or pages; they are as they were when he purchased the book in 1940. This book has tight edges, gorgeous color, and a beautiful majestic cover. The pages are off-white to white, unbelievable for a book 65 years old. It’s perfect!

If you haven’t realized by now, I can’t say enough good things about this book; you need to hold it in your hands to truly absorb and appreciate its beauty, and historical significance.

Finally, I believe that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for some lucky bidder and I wish all you the best of luck. Please don’t hesitate to email me with your questions.

2005 Overstreet NM- 9.2 value = $140,000. Note: Comiclink.com has a Batman CGC 9.0 with an asking price of $285,000 and a bid of $205,000 currently. "
