Cool Stuff on eBay This Week- the Rainy Tuesday Edition

WATCHMEN ORIGINAL ART ALAN MOORE DAVE GIBBONS #9 PG 27

watchmen

A few weeks late? Yeah, probably. but it's still Watchmen art, so there's still a lot to love.

Batman 1 1940 DC 1st app Joker. Signed by Bob Kane !!

batman-1

filter81 is clearly the "clean" king of eBay. Batman #1 is an underrated book, by the way. 1st Catwoman. 1st Joker.

X-Men#3 Splashy Magneto art by Jim Lee & Scott Williams

jim-lee

It's amazing to see how far Jim Lee has progressed from this work. There's still a lot of cool energy and dynamism in his earlier work, but he's been getting better all the time.

Of course, I know some of you probably hate him. To that I say- to each his own :)

STARLIN Warlock # 10 page 14 Adam in all panels WOW

jim-starlin

Talk about dynamism. Starlin is the man. Cosmic comics are the top of the heap for me. I love 'em. And Warlock is one of the best cosmic characters.

Anything else out there? What did I miss? Leave it in the comments.

eBay: Marvel Fantastic Four original comic cover art #115 (item 260073306745 end time Jan-13-07 13:33:13 PST)

Winning bid: US $13,856.99 Seller: wozney2007( 0 )

"Marvel Fantastic Four issue #115, October, 1971. This is the original inked cover art/production paste-up for this cover. The art board has been trimmed, but the excess border extends one-half inch beyond the actual art. There is some lifting of the paste-up—the speech balloons, marvel corner logo, Fantastic Four type, and the title are separate pieces that were originally rubber cemented in position. These compress flat when tightly framed. There is just a little yellowing in spots due to the rubber cement and age, but the art is very clean and in great condition. It has been stored, framed, under glass. The printed comic is included with the art. The cover has separated from the staples but is in good condition."

Here's the art:

New York Times on Cockrum

Dave Cockrum, 63, Comic Book Artist, Dies

"Dave Cockrum, an illustrator who in the mid-1970s helped invent a dynamic new look and intriguing new characters for the moribund “X-Men” comics, paving the way for what became America’s most popular comic books and a billion-dollar movie empire, died on Nov. 26 at his home in Belpon, S.C. He was 63."

The new look is an important thing to note. Cockrum's character designs were greater than stuff.

Dave Cockrum RIP

Sad to see him go.

PAD posted this morning:

With a heavy heart, I regret to inform you that Dave Cockrum passed away this morning…."

Back in the day, I was mildly distrustful of him because he wasn't John Byrne and John Byrne was all my 12 year old X-Men obsessed brain wanted to see. Since then I've grown a real fondness for Cockrum's work- to the point where the most "fun" I have with re-reading the classic X-Men stories might be with the issues Cockrum drew. That's at least partially because I'm less familiar with them, but it's also because I see things in Cockrum's art now that I never saw when I was a kid.
