Want a chance to learn more about your old comic books? Are you interested in their history, significance and potential value? If that sounds like you, then send me an EMAIL, preferably with high resolution scans or photos of the comic you're interested in learning more about and depending on how interesting it is, I might write about it for the site as a featured appraisal. I'll try to answer questions for anyone that sends in any book, but, depending on the volume, I can only guarantee that I'll write properly about books featured on the site.
Some notes:
- Only books from before 1980, please. Even books from the 1970s have very little chance of making it onto the site, but there are a few that would definitely be interesting to write about so I'll leave the cut-off at 1980.
- The appraisals are entertainment/informational purposes only – no certifications or exact valuations are given or guaranteed. Since I won't have the books in hand and will be judging condition from a scan, I will only provide informational estimates of condition and therefore value. If, after that, you need an official estimate for insurance purposes or want to get a solid estimate on the book in order to sell it I can put you in touch with someone trusted in your area to do a real appraisal.
The point of this offer is really to have some fun looking at old comics and educating people about old comics. Hard and fast valuations are for another venue.
- I need a good sized image- hopefully of the front and back. Scans should be 150-300dpi @100% and photos should be dumped right out of the camera as-is. I need as much detail as possible to judge condition. It's tough enough to estimate condition without the book in hand (so tough it's only a rough estimate and never an official pronouncement of grade.) It's impossible to do it with a small scan.
Thanks

I HAVE A 1ST EDITION ISSUE OF THE
'SIMPSONS'
1ST EDITION
SPECIAL COLLECTORS EDITION
I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IT IS WORTH…
I WANT TO SELL IT
LAST I HEARD THEY CAN REACH OVER $1000
By Rob February 22, 2010 - 2:46 pm
In perfect condition it's sold for over $1000. Chances are good your copy isn't in perfect condition, so yours will be worth much, much less. Here's one for $4 on eBay
By fay stein May 12, 2010 - 11:19 am
I have one in perfect condition….who buys that
By Rob May 12, 2010 - 1:07 pm
Again, I doubt yours is actually in "perfect" condition. A merely nice copy will sell for a few dollars. As for who buys it, there's not like a clearinghouse. For something like that your best bet is eBay or something similar.

Technically the book is called Four Color #845. It guides for maybe $10-20 in lower grades. I'm not sure how much it would actually sell for. The good news is it has art by Alex toth, which means some people might actually be interested in it.

Please and thank you.. for ne info 50¢ not excellent but very good condition
By Rob October 16, 2011 - 8:36 pm
Turok 128 came out in 1981. That's the book you have. It's probably worth the fifty cents it originally sold for.

By jayMonay June 26, 2012 - 11:39 pm
I have about 50 comics so far ranging from the 1960s to the late 1990s and the two comices that I am very interested in knowing about is my 1971 Amazing Spiderman 100th anniversary issue, it's in good to very good condition, the color around the staples of the spine is starting to color and there is slight signs of wear. The other comic is an Batman 400 anniversary issue with special intro by Stephen King, in excellent condition, no marks. Could you give me an estimate? Thank you!

I have comics priced at 20 – 60 cents – spiderman, hulk, etc What are some highly valued titles, issues etc?
By Rob February 23, 2012 - 4:20 pm
that spread covers something like 10-15 years. there are quite a few books that are valuable from within those years. there are thousands of books that are worthless. Me tossing out titles and issue numbers of valuable books is kind of like playing the lottery. I can work with a list. Thanks.

Hi, I have 2 Marvel Special Edition Star Wars comic books. I think they`re from around 1977. They have a little banner printed on them in the upper-left corner that says `STAR WARS COLLECTOR`S EDITION!`, too. Under the banner it says `WHITMAN` and a price of $1.OO. Next to that is `#1`, and `#2` on the other one. I got them at a yard sale yesterday and they`re in pretty rough shape. Faded colors, dog-eared, yellow pages. The low-right corner of both look almost like they`ve been eaten by a mouse or something. Lol, like I said, pretty rough shape. But I`ve seen them sold on eBay for over $1OO in perfect condition. I know these are definitely NOT perfect condition, so I`m not expecting much. But I`m hoping they`re at least worth something. What do you think?
If they`re not worth anything, I`ll just hang them on my wall like I was going to when I bought them lol. Thanks!

I have "Amazing Fantasy#15" with CGC8 signed by Stan Lee and restored. What is it worth
Thank you
By Rob March 10, 2013 - 8:53 pm
Signature series? Or just signed? Signature series would be worth more. Just signed, it would be worth in the 3-5000 range, depending on the type and level of restoration.

I have Marvel/DC comic books that range from 15 cents to One Dollar .Can I have a estimate guess on the value or what it can go for in a auction?(example:Peter Parker The Amazing Spider Man,Issue # 50, Price 35)
By Rob November 12, 2008 - 2:06 pm
hi, if you want to email me a list, I'd be happy to give you a better sense of the book's values. There are books from that range (the prices indicate around 1970 through the 1980s) that could be worth hundreds or thousands or they could all be basically worthless. It really depends on the specific titles and issue numbers + the condition of the books.
By Montana Gray November 13, 2008 - 12:02 am
Hello, I was wondering if I could email you a list of some of my comic books and possibly recieve information of some of their values.
By Rob November 13, 2008 - 7:57 am
Hi Montana,
feel free to email me a list, and I can give you general values. After that, if the books warrant it and you're interested, I can put you in touch with someone who can give you a real appraisal (which requires access to the books.)

Hello,
I have a lot of old comics given to me by my uncle. The only thing is, they are books containing multiple comics. I have The Amazing Spider Man #1-25 I believe in about 5 books published in the late 70's early 80's, any ideas on what they would be worth?
By Rob December 4, 2008 - 10:27 am
Hi Josh,
Got a photo of one of the books? I'm not sure what have.
By Tammy December 11, 2008 - 4:22 pm
Hello Rob,
I have a comic book called Tony Wong presents Drunken Fist by Jademan comics. I got this when a Grandpa Pigeon store was closing in the 80's. In fact, I bought several DC and Marvel comics as well (they came in a package called "Super Value Comics" out of print comics special purchases collectible titles packaged in the USA. Some contain one book, the others contain two).
Anything you can tell me about these?
Thank you!
Tammy
By Rob December 11, 2008 - 5:14 pm
hi Tammy, The Jademan book, while very cool (I read that series as well as several other Jademan books back in the day) is basically worthless as a collectible.
The value of the Marvel and DC books would depend on the title and condition. If you have a list or just want to send me a photo of the books I can help you out a little more…

Hi, Rob.
I have 18 Richie Rich comics and about 26 Marvel Spiderman Comics ranging from early to late 70's.
could you give me an estiamte on how much this would be worth?
By Rob January 16, 2009 - 10:40 am
Hi Hannah, I'd need to have a list of the books, including issue numbers, and photos of them to get any sense of their worth. Certain "Spider-man" comics from the 1970s could be worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Others might be worth 25 or 50 cents. Thanks!

now she has a variety of dc,marvel, eclipse comics dated from 1988-1989 and titles include the doom patrol, gilgames h, power of atom, excalibur, starman, superman, dirty pair, flash, dragon lance and millennium week 1 and the episode are too numerous to add. she would just like to know if they have any facevalue. thank u julia
By Rob February 18, 2009 - 10:14 pm
julia, it really depends on the condition and the issue numbers. Off-hand I'd guess they wouldn't be worth much, but there are always surprises to be found. If you could even just take a picture of them, I could maybe give you some idea.

I have The Death of Superman i believe is issue #2 or is the second copy made how much is this comic book worth ive heard that its worth alot but im not sure and it is mint condition in a plastic sleeve to keep safe
By Rob March 19, 2009 - 4:14 pm
hi Mike, a regular first print of that book (Superman #75) is worth between say, $5 and $100, depending on the condition. A 2nd print would be worth considerably less.
By Mike M. March 19, 2009 - 4:28 pm
so y is a #75 worth more then #2
By Rob March 19, 2009 - 4:31 pm
Hi mike,
The "Death of Superman" occurs in issue #75 of the Superman comic book. So, when you ask me what the "Death of Superman" you're really asking what Superman #75 is worth.
If you have a 2nd printing of Superman #75, that's worth less than a 1st printing because people really only collect 1st printings.
By Mike M. March 19, 2009 - 4:37 pm
well its a series right or no. i mean i have the one where he is dead at the end of the comic i really dont know much about comics
By Rob March 19, 2009 - 4:47 pm
Hi Mike, is this the book you have? If so, a 1st print is potentially worth a few dollars, (it will say right on the inside from cover) a 2nd print is basically worthless.
thanks
By Mike M. March 19, 2009 - 4:48 pm
yea thats exactly the one so its worthless then
By Mike M. March 19, 2009 - 4:51 pm
well on the inside cover it says Superman 75 Jan, 1993 Fourth Printing G-7771
By Rob March 19, 2009 - 4:57 pm
Yeah, the valuable version is the 1st printing. Sorry!
By Isaac Smith January 23, 2012 - 7:36 pm

1. Issue #1 Bucky O'Hare. 1990
2. 1st All-New Collectors item issue of Spiderman (1990)
3. The Amazing Spider man Issue Volume 1 no. 337
4. X-Men Classic Vol 1 No. 57
5. Incredible Hulk #379
6. Wolverine#62

8. The Uncanny X-Men #229
9. X-Factor #63
By Rob April 20, 2009 - 3:08 pm
hi Mark,
99% of books from that era are completely worthless. Those fall into that category.
Sorry.
By mark April 20, 2009 - 6:16 pm
Will they ever be worth anything? 20 more years from now maybe?
By Rob April 20, 2009 - 6:54 pm
they could be. Since they're "worthless" right now, people might start to recycle them, or hand them out to kids on Halloween. Slowly but surely the number of copies available will start to shrink and all of a sudden they've become more valuable.
By Wyatt April 21, 2009 - 4:54 pm
-Hello, I recently purchased a comic book to read, it was The Amazing Spider-Man #580.
-I bought it for about 3 dollars, and then i realized there was a signature from the author. The author is Howard Stern, and i didnt know how well known of an author he is.
-How much -if its worth anything- can i sell it for?
-Thanks for your time!
By Wyatt April 21, 2009 - 4:58 pm
ok sorry rob, i said howard stern, haha
_ Roger* Stern
Sorry about that, thanks!
By Rob April 21, 2009 - 8:04 pm
Comics aren't really increased in value, most times, by the writer or artist's signature.
By kent May 6, 2009 - 12:05 am
I have been trying to find a value for #75 The Death of Superman. If you could tell me the value of this comic I'd greatly appreciate it.
By Rob May 7, 2009 - 7:46 am
Kent,
In absolutely perfect condition it might be worth 75-80. There's a "poly-bagged" edition that might be worth significantly more.

Hi, I have Peter Parker the Spectacular Spiderman issue 1, I was wondering the worth, it is in perfect condition, in a plastic sleeve. My friend also wants me to ask about one of his. He has the first ever appearance of The Punisher (i don't remember the actual name of the book, just that it's his first appearance) it is also in perfect condition in a sleeve, and he also has a perfect condition first appearance of the black suit in spiderman.
By Rob May 18, 2009 - 6:58 am
Hi Rick,
In truly perfect shape the Spectacular Spider-Man book would be worth about $250. Chances are your book is not in that highest, highest grade so it's probably worth significantly less. People bought and saved boxes of that book, so it's very common.
The first appearance of the Punisher was in Amazing Spider-Man #129. In perfect shape, it's worth $7-10000. Again, chances are his book is not in that kind of shape and would therefore be worth anywhere between $150 and maybe $750
The first black costume appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #252 would be worth anywhere between $5-250 depending on the condition.
If you have scans or high res photos of any of the books I can give you a better idea of the value.
By Mike August 14, 2011 - 12:57 pm
Rob, isn't the first appearance of the black spider man costume at the end of the #8 Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars? Is that particular comic worth anything?….Thanks…..Mike
By Rick May 18, 2009 - 6:18 pm
thanks, i'll try to get scans, but i know that the books were bought new from his dad, never been read, and were put in the plastic right after bought. same with my spiderman, he had 2 copies and gave me one of them. thank you for the info.
By Rob May 18, 2009 - 10:22 pm
Hi Rick,
It's tough to describe without examples in hand, but the difference between the very best books and lesser copies are very difficult for most folks to see.
By Sage May 23, 2009 - 7:18 am

Some of the Alf's guide for $3-4 each, which generally indicates someone is actually buying them. I have no idea of their true value however. What years are the Mads from?

By Mike Hamilton July 21, 2009 - 12:11 am
Hey Rob,
Bought a lot of Star Wars comic books, mint condition from Comic Books stores (marvel). Surprised to see that they aren't worth much. Used to be able to find comic books everywhere, not so much anymore. Why the fall out?
By Rob July 21, 2009 - 6:17 am
Hi Mike. You're kind of asking two questions. Comic pamphlets have mostly moved into specialty stores and the combination of Manga digests and Graphic Novel format comics now dominate bookstores, so the comic market has really just changed over the past 30 years.
The star wars books aren't that valuable because they were very popular and were released in an era where everything that was bought was saved. So there are many thousands of nice copies of all the early issues.
By Mike Hamilton July 22, 2009 - 8:01 pm
Thanks for the response, its appreciated. I've seen the first edition #1 issue Star Wars comic going for 3k….mine is also very good condition, bagged from the time I got it stored in a box, all the pages are there and white. New at this, how to get an appraisal? I'm sure mine's not worth 3k….but just curious how much, the wife needs a minivan! ahahha
By Rob July 23, 2009 - 8:35 am
The copy that went for $3000 was a 35 cent variant. That's a rare version. Chances are very good you don't have that version (which isn't to say your copy might not have a 35 cent price tag- it might. There are many 35 cent reprints. Those are worthless. ) If you have a regular, 30 cent first print in nearly perfect condition, professionally graded by the folks at CGC, then it might be worth $500.
If you have a high resolution photo or a scan, I can give you some sense of what it might be worth.
By Mike Hamilton July 24, 2009 - 12:39 am
Thanks for helpin me understand Rob, its appreciated. Why the different symbols on the prices….some have a diamond, and some are squared off? I hope that makes sense, and I'll take a photo of the one I have.

Hey Rob,
I have Amazing Spiderman #121, and #122. Original prints. Their in plastic intact with no major tears. Maybe a crease or two from before my time, but they have been wrapped in plastic and stored for the last 16 years. I was just wondering their worth….Thanks
By Rob August 27, 2009 - 9:47 pm
They'd be worth some $$, basically regardless of condition. How much exactly would depend on the condition. Feel free to email me @ rob.react@gmail.com if you've got some photos.
By Jay August 28, 2009 - 4:51 am
OK, thanks for the reply. I will do that. I'll snap some pics after work and send this afternoon.

How much would The Amazing Spider Man comic #53 be worth? If it's worth anything decent I will gladly email you pics of the condition. It's yellowing a bit, all the pages are in tact, and there an itty bitty super tiny tear on the back cover.
By Rob September 20, 2009 - 11:20 pm
Hi, spider-man #53 is worth SOME money almost regardless of condition. If you had photos that would be best.

if you sold the entire lot together, you might be able to make some money- $25-50 or more. Individually, I don't think there's anything of value.

My roommate inhearted her mom's comic books of called Classics Illustrated she has diffrent numbers and we are not seeing any info in the books to tell anything about em wondering if you can help us tell anything about them i keep seeing like 1st ed or hlm or something but we are not seeing that in the books
By Rob January 7, 2010 - 8:01 am
Classics Illustrated are very confusing except for people who collect them and aren't very valuable except in very specific circumstances
By Dan Cusimano January 12, 2010 - 10:24 am
There's actually a very easy way to determine the value of Classics. Classics were reprinted a zillion times, and in the vast majority of cases, only the first printing has any real value.
On the back cover (or the inside front cover) there is a re-order form. You'll see a list of issue numbers. If the "Highest Reorder Number" (HRN) is the same (or one higher) than the comic you have, that's a first printing (for example, if you have a copy of Classics Illustrated 90, and the HRN is also 90, that's an original), and has some value.
In some early issues, the second printing also has some value, but those are the exceptions. There were three issues that were NOT reprinted at all, and only have one edition, issues 53, 70, and 73. Those are worth significant sums as there's a strong demand for them. Hope this helps.
By Rob January 12, 2010 - 10:29 am
Awesome, Dan. Thanks!

Hello Rob
I just wanted to know what was the total print run for the
DC Comic's Superman 75 poly=bagged
( Or better know as the black with the bleeding " S " )
I ask because as of today I just got back my cover from cgc and it was graded 9.8 only 35 copy's that high so now, I wanted to find out the print run amount ….Do you know that imformation or could you point me in the right path to find out ???
Thanks
Glynn
By Rob February 15, 2010 - 1:51 pm
Hi Glynn,
I really have no idea. That's not the kind of book I follow all that closely.
Thanks!
By Dan Cusimano February 24, 2010 - 9:54 am
The print run on that book was EXCEPTIONALLY high, maybe two million or higher, plus it has seen significant reprinting. GPA is showing the 9.8 price cratering.
By Justin February 17, 2010 - 11:21 am
Hey, I have a large collection of comics I would like to get appraised. Titles include Green Lantern, Superman, Blue Beetle, Captain America (including The Bloodstone Hunt arc, 357-364). I live in Virginia, near Roanoke, any way you could help me find someone who could help me out fairly close by?
By Rob February 17, 2010 - 11:37 am
Hi Justin, what years would those books be from? 80s, 90s?
By Justin February 17, 2010 - 12:22 pm
They are mostly 80's, a few earlier, but not many.
By George February 19, 2010 - 3:33 pm
Hi I have a 1966 Spider- man golden record #1 reprint still sealed in the shrink with the record, it has never been opened, I found one on ebay that was graded high for 3200 but this has never had a hand on it in 44years. Its mint cause its still sealed, what would you say its worth, if not sure please give Me a ball park figure. Thanks So Much George
By Rob February 19, 2010 - 3:41 pm
Depending on exactly how nice it is it could be worth anywhere between $500 and $2500 for just the comic. I don't really know anything about them if they're still sealed in terms of value.
By George February 19, 2010 - 3:43 pm
Rob if I am correct I believe there were only four of these released in 1966 Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thor, and Spiderman, I have three out of the four all new and still sealed never been opened I do have the fourth one but it has been opened. I do not know alot about comics but I am pretty sure I should not have them opened to be graded correct? As they all sit now they are flawless. Thanks again George
By Rob February 19, 2010 - 3:46 pm
I would have to ask around to see what they're worth, sealed. Yes, to get them graded by CGC you'd have to send them down to Florida unsealed.
the one copy of the Spider-Man book I know of (and it's not something I follow at all) sold for around $1000. I'll email you for some more info.
By George February 19, 2010 - 4:02 pm
Thanks Rob!! I called a local shop and they want me to bring it in, not sure yet if Im willing to do so. Thanks again!!! George
By Dan Cusimano February 24, 2010 - 9:58 am
IF they are still sealed, I'd be very interested in them all.
By George February 22, 2010 - 2:41 pm
Rob
Just curious what you think that Avengers one will go for unsealed and ungraded? Just a shot in the dark estimate.
Thanks George
By Rob February 22, 2010 - 2:49 pm
You email has been weird. I get a "delayed delivery notice." It might be worth $100-200 ungraded. It's tough to guess.

Dear Rob, I'm holding a bunch of marvel comics, mostly in the siver age group. They are all in good condition. I can send pictures and a list. Their is a convention( Comic ) coming to town next month and I'm looking for the safest way to sell them and get their maximum value, what do you advise.

Hello! Was wondering how much mint X-Files comics are worth. I have all issues and rare. Mainly what are -2,-1, 0, and 1 value. All in 9.9 condition. Thanks

CGC graded copies, were they really 9.9 might be worth a $1-200. They're probably not 9.9 though, so your books are probably not worth getting graded. 9.4s and 9.6s sell for just over the cost of grading or below $10-40. Raw, I would imagine they might bring a couple of dollars each

Hi, I have UK versions of X Files comics by both Manga and Topps. I have issue 1-26 and a few special editions. I don't know much about comics or the grading thing you mention. How much do you think they are worth? Anywhere i can sell? Can you email me the reply.
Thanks
Lewis

IIRC correclty, the first three issues of the American editions he first few guide for something like $30, $18 and $10 respectively. The rest of the run is like $4 apiece. I'm not at all sure what the demand these days would be, since I don't really deal with new comics.
