This is beyond the high end of what I realistically thought this could do. I recognized it could surprise since this is such a crazy book to try to source, but much more than 2.5 million seemed unrealistic to me.
What are the better copies worth? The best Superman #1 is the 3rd most valuable book after this, right? I can't escape that idea now. It's the Church Action #1, the Allentown Detective #27 and then the best copy of Superman #1.
It's got to be a $7,500,000 to $10,000,000 book.
The Church copy is easily a $5.000,000 book.
The best Superman #1 is worth more than the second best copy of both Detective #27 and Action #1 and is worth more than the best copy of any other book.

That makes sense though doesn't it? I mean in general Superman #1 is considered the 3rd most valuable comic book, so if you have the highest grade Action #1, the highest grade Detective #27, and the highest grade Superman #1, it stands to reason that the value of those 3 would be 1, 2, & 3 respectively. It would also stand to reason that if you had 3 copies that each grade as 5.0s that the order would be the same. Basically, grades being equal, of course the order would be Action #1, Det #27, and Superman #1. I kind of see the point you are trying to make, that the grades might be slightly different but when they are the best known copies, I don't think it matters at that point, unless it is a truly gigantic difference like the Allentown #27 is a 9.8 with white pages and the Church Action #1 is 9.2 with white to off-white pages (which I've never heard it having anything but white pages, I'm just giving a hypothetical example that might actually move the needle on value).

Yeah, laying it out that way makes it seem less like a leap. The thing is I've had the best Superman #1 behind a few other books for so long it's tough to switch the way I think about them. Thanks for the different perspective.

I think because we see Action #1s sell so often, we get caught up in the hype of that particular book. Hell even Det #27s have sold recently that let’s us get a better grasp of where they stand. I can’t remember the last time I saw a 7.0 Superman #1 sell, maybe never, not since numbered grading and slabbed comics.
