Detective Comics #38 CGC 5.5 at Hake's

Hake's continues to move into the higher end of the comics auction market. Their current auction includes DETECTIVE COMICS #38 APRIL 1940 CGC 5.5. This is an interesting book to me. For a while the Allentown Detective #38 was like the DC version of the Marvel Comics #1 Pay Copy. It was up for sale every couple of years in a very small range.

Since then, Golden Age keys have exploded and it feels like Detective Comics #38 has become less and less common at auction.

The Larson copy, another 5.5, sold, a couple of years ago, for $90,000, which would have put you in the running for the Allentown a few years earlier. I'm interested to see where this copy ends up.
