Back in the day, I was mildly distrustful of him because he wasn't John Byrne and John Byrne was all my 12 year old X-Men obsessed brain wanted to see. Since then I've grown a real fondness for Cockrum's work- to the point where the most "fun" I have with re-reading the classic X-Men stories might be with the issues Cockrum drew. That's at least partially because I'm less familiar with them, but it's also because I see things in Cockrum's art now that I never saw when I was a kid.
