Archie Comics #1 CGC 4.0 OW/W 1st Ms. Andrews 1st Teen Comic Bob Montana MLJ

Sold For: US $23,200.00 Seller: sparklecitycomics (45175)

Description:

Archie Comics #1 CGC 4.0 OW/W 1st Ms. Andrews 1st Teen Comic Bob Montana MLJ

Archie Andrews is one of the longest running and most important comic book characters of all-time. Unlike the Superhero genre, where there is debate and competition, there is no other teen humor character even close in significance. Archie Comics #1 is an important and highly desirable comic that features several Key firsts. Its the first appearance of Ms. Andrews (Archie's mother), the first time the Archie-Veronica relationship is explained in detail, and this book is the first comic entirely devoted to teens. This stunning copy was graded 4.0 because of the relatively small piece out of the back cover. One look at the front cover scan will tell you thius is no ordinary 4.0 copy. This example can easily pass for a 6.0 to 7.0 copy and even though it received OW/WHITE pages, looking at the book before submission made us think it should have received WHITE pages as the interior, both covers and pages were bone white. Archie Comics #1 is finally getting its due over the past couple of years and we think there is plenty of room to appreciate based on importnace and scarcity. Consider this, there are ONLY 27 copies of Archie #1 that have been certified as compared with 174 copies of Batman #1 and 96 copies of Superman #1. There are only 6 certified copies that have graded higher and probably no more than 3 of them can eqaul the cover appeal. The original owner title adds to the appeal considering this copy was just pulled from a box where it sat for the better part of 6 decades less than a week ago. We are certain this important and scarce piece of Americana will find a great home. Serial number 1097565014

Suspense Comics #3 CGC 6.5 SCARCE Classic Schomburg Bondage Cover Continental'

Suspense Comics #3 is one of the most desirable comics of the golden age. The cover is arguably Schomburg's best and due to both its scarcity and cover art, Suspense Comics #3 is at the top of just about every golden age collector's list. The biggest problem is finding a copy. This amazing copy is one just about the best that can be acquired. There are just 2 copies that have graded higher with the highest being a lone 8.0 and just a single coipy one notch down at 7.5. It is doubtful that either of those copies will be available anytime soon. Serial number 0013021002. Very small piece of tape on centerfold at staple.

Sold For:$116,100.00 Seller: sparklecitycomics ( 44139 )

Description:

Detective Comics #27 CGC 1.8 OW/W 1st appearance BATMAN Bob Kane DC Golden Age

Detective Comics #27 which introduced Batman to the world is easily the 2nd most desirable comic ever printed. With Batman's longevity, increased demand and popularity as compared with Superman in recent years, it appears that the gap in both price and importance has be closing between Detective #27 and Action #1. There are only 27 unrestored copies of this MEGA KEY golden age 1st appearance that have been certified in 12 years of CGC's existence. Of those 27 copies, only 4 examples fall in the "relatively affordable" grade range of 1.5 and 2.5. This example is one of those 4. The eye appeal and color strike are more beautiful than the assigned grade. Part of the reason for the beautiful page quality and appearance, is the fact that this example was stored in a box for 65 years in a cool climate. Its a rare opportunity to buy a fresh to market book of this caliber. This auction is NO RESERVE.

ACTION COMICS #1 CGC 7.0 1st Superman Holy Grail DC Golden Age

Sold For: 120,100.00 Seller: sparklecitycomics ( 43942 )

Description:

ACTION COMICS #1 CGC 7.0 1st Superman Holy Grail DC Golden Age

Action Comics #1 is truly an American Treasure. Its place in both American History and Comic History has already been etched. The image of Superman holding a car against the white background on the cover is well known by everyone who collects comics as well as millions who don't. Superman is known universally across the globe and is a cultural icon in the same way the names of Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan and Babe Ruth are. You can ask people who do not know sports those names and they will know exactly who they are. In the same way, Superman is known by those that know little about comics. The significance of Superman in pop culture and American History cannot be understated and the significance of Action Comics #1 is broad and far reaching. Action Comics #1 is not only the 1st appearance of the Man of Steel, but it is also the comic that is known as the first true superhero comic. Superman paved the way for countless others and began a trend that continues today and has become part of the fabric of our lives. This is an opportunity for a comic collector, an American history collector, an art collector, a pop culture collector, and investor, or plain and simple, anyone who wants to own something special that can be treasured or bragged about to acquire a piece of American history and world history for that matter. This is a chance to join an exclusive club of people who own a copy of this national treasure. Its not often one has the chance to take ownership of a piece of history this significant. There are an estimated 50 to 100 copies said to exist and 55 have walked thru CGC's doors since their inception. That's a small amount compared to the 200,000 copies printed originally in 1938 and a even a smaller amount compared to the millions that want to own a copy within today's collector base. The reason for the shortage of copies of this comic is primarily due to the World War II paper drive. Kids and families across the nation were encouraged to help America's effort in gathering resources to fight the Axis of Evil. Tons and tons of Golden Age comics were sacrificed because it was seen as your civic duty to help your country. With less than 100 believed to exist, the demand for this comic is phenomenal. Make no mistake about it, someone will be the new owner of this comic in 10 days since we are proud to offer this example of comic's Holy Grail with NO RESERVE. This particular Action Comics #1 has been professional examined and graded by CGC the top 3rd party independent comic grading service within the hobby. CGC has confirmed all the paper restoration work done and has assigned the appropriate grade. Unlike other restored copies, even the trained eye would have a hard time spotting the professional restoration job on the brilliant cover which looks every bit VF/NM. Given the fact that a copy of this appeal would cost nearly $1 million dollars if unrestored, this will be the best chance for many to acquire a copy for a more modest amount. Restored copies that do not look as nice as this one and have clear visible evidence of restoration have sold for as much as $150,000. Close your eyes and imagine this comic on your wall or in your trophy case or just being able to say you own a copy. Good luck bidding an enjoy the auction!
