Five for Friday (Doug Mahnke, FF5, Dell'otto, Jim Lee, Travis Charest)

ORIGINAL TRAVIS CHAREST WILDCATS VOL 2 ISSUE 7 COVER

There are better, more detailed and impressive covers from Charest's work on WildCats, but this one is certainly memorable design-wise.

GREEN LANTERN #52 COVER ART – SINESTRO * DOUG MAHNKE

This is a great recent cover from one of the best titles of the past few years.

Fantastic Four 5 CGC 8.0 off-white – white 1st Dr. Doom

One of the best books EVER.

DELL'OTTO ASTONISHING X-MEN #1 WOLVERINE VARIANT COVER

I usually don't go for penciled original art, but this is a seriously great image of wolverine.

Jim Lee Elektra Splash Original Art

Drawn on tour? Really? Like… as a sketch? Jim Lee is PRO.

Frank Miller and Klaus Janson Batman: The Dark Knight #3 Batman and Robin Iconic Splash Page 10 Original Art

You thought I was going to start somewhere else? I don't care what anyone else thinks… To me this page is the best piece of comic art from the 1980s I've ever seen for sale and is one of the best possible pages from the entire decade. Simply amazing.

Five for Friday (Sensation #1, Showcase #22, Action #252, Captain America #14, Turner Ballistic Cover)

Sensation Comics # 1 – Wonder Woman January DC 1942

Just in time for the Wonder Woman TV show announcement.

Showcase Presents Green Lantern – #22 ~ 1959

A copy reportedly from an original owner collection. Looks like a well-loved collection. I like seeing those almost as much as I like seeing the obsessive condition freaks because I love the idea that people just read these things to death.

Action Comics #252 VF- 7.5 1st Supergirl DC 1959

That's a great book. Not just that copy (which is nice,) but the issue in general.

Captain America #14 CGC 9.2 Timely 1942 OW-W

That's a great cover and a great copy… win-win!

Turner – Ballistic 3 original cover sexy & inked

I remember distinctly, seeing this cover on the stands. It's where I first noticed Turner, even though I didn't actually read his work until Witchblade.

All-American Comics #16 CGC 8.0 1st Green Lantern! cm

Big-time book. Some weeks I yawn, other weeks I smile. Even restored, this week, I smile.

Sold For: US $24,500.00 Seller: comicmylars ( 3076 )

Description:

Up for auction is:
All-American Comics #16 CGC 8.0 1st Green Lantern! Apparent VF 8.0 Slight (P) Off-white pages! With the movie coming out, this book is poised to increase in value! This book is from 1940!
This book currently ranks fifth on Overstreet's Top 100 Golden Age Books list (trails only Action #1, Detective #27, Marvel #1, and Superman #1 – and is ahead of Bat-man #1….) and is priced at $280,000 in the price guide at 9.2.
To put that in perspective, CGC has certified just one unrestored copy nicer than FN 6.0 to date! Green Lantern's origin and first appearance! Overstreet price guide says this book is "rare" and this is also listed as a Gerber "scarce"… Restoration includes: "spine split sealed to cover, glue on spine of cover, cover cleaned, cover reinforced."
Again, this has only 'slight' professional restoration (much better than some others with Moderate restoration… don't even compare vs ones with Extensive restoration). What was this book before the 'slight' restoration??? A CGC 4.5 unrestored just sold in 2009 for over $42,000…
This is a great looking book and an even better investment. Books this nice are close to impossible to find!

And the book:

Five For Friday (Miracleman Hardcover, Phile Hale, Bruce Timm, Bryan Hitch, All American 17)

This is an interesting week, for my tastes at least. Sometimes I choose five items that are interesting to the wider collecting world which might not be that interesting to me personally. All of these are items that I'd be happy to call my own.

Miracleman Book 3 Olympus Hardcover 1st Print NM+ 1990

I don't know that I've ever actually seen this book in person. If I have seen it, I don't remember it. I owned the softcover. I felt weird about how much I sold it for.

Me, in my head:

"but… this is a reprint… I know it's out of print, but… it's a reprint!"

PHIL HALE BADHAIR PAINTING

Phil Hale is a phenomenon. He "gets" action the same way Frazetta did.

BRUCE TIMM Original Comic Book Cover: Worlds Finest #1

Timm is great. Greater than great. That is all.

captain america reborn hitch original art page red skul

Hitch is one of my five favorite current artists. Wonder why? Look at this page

Who are the others? Frank Quitely, Travis Charest (although he's basically just a cover artist at this point,) and then it gets tougher. Let's say Steve Mcniven and J. H. Williams III? It's tough. 10 would be easier after the first three (Assuming we count Travis, since he doesn't have much in the way of interiors right now.)

All-American Comics #17 CGC 4.5 2nd Green Lantern app

Not the right Green Lantern for all the hype, but… It's All American 17 on eBay.

Some Highlights from the November 2010 ComicLink Auction

As a note, for me personally, this is one of the toughest auctions in recent memory in terms of knowing where to place my bids. I could probably bid on 50 books in this auction. I've got it narrowed down to probably six, but it's hard to choose.

Sigh.

Anyway, here are some other books that you should know about:

ARCHIE COMICS #1

Interested in an Archie #1? Just go all in right now. They're not going to get any cheaper. Go back in time and buy one five years ago.

And get a Pep #22 while you're at it.

Archie.

DAREDEVIL #1 NM+ 9.6 Curator

I'd like to see the 9.8, but… that sure is a pretty copy.

Based on the above listing the consignor of the Curator copy just got the 9.8. Upgrading from a 9.6, pedigree copy. How often does that happen?

High eBay Comics Item for the Week Ending 2010.10.02 (robojo33 Green Lantern #1)

GREEN LANTERN #1 (1960) NM- to NM 9.2 to 9.4

Rob's comment: It's been a while since I featured a robojo33 book here. For a while he was a regular. I thought he might have left ebay. Oh well.

Also, there was this ridiculous X-men #1 (1991) auction that hammered higher. I'm clearly not counting that one :)

Winning bid: US $8,099.00 Seller: robojo33 ( 2609 )

Description:

Here is the large image link for this comic:

http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss103/PS1065/GL1_091010.jpg

This listing is for a Green Lantern #1 in magnificent NM- to NM condition with cream colored pages.

It's the sister copy, from the same original owner collection, but a different #1 than the GL #1 in NM+ condition that I listed about 3 months ago:

http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z174/Robojo33/GL1_060810.jpg

sharing many of it's uncirculated-like attributes. With Pedigree-like colors and unimagineably suoerb paper quality, only some very mild spine edge flaking (where it was opened) and several tiny stresses towards the top of the spine, keep this gem from grading higher, closer to euqal to the NM+ .

The comic is glossy, clean, complete, and has no tape, repairs, or restoration of any kind.

And the book:

Green Lantern #76 CGC 9.8 at Heritage. There Will Be (Bidding) Blood.

How close will this beauty push towards six figures?

Frighteningly close, I think. Pulling a number out of the air, I'm going to say $75,000.

It's okay if you need a minute to catch your breath.

Here's the book:
