About the condition:
A beautiful, bright and fresh copy with deep color strike, full gloss, excellent centering, near flawless spine and edges, and page quality that is perfect White. The book looks newsstand fresh – Simply amazing!

Note:

The top edge is fantastic – But there is glare from the gloss. So NO, there is no wear or color scuffs. If it were to be pressed, the top edge would look sensational. No worries – CGC is really tough on books like this.

1. It seems like The Showcase 4 basically made 9.5 money. 179k is nothing to sneeze at, but it's only 19k more than the 9.4 sold for at ComicConnect. I know people were skeptical about the grade, feeling it had gotten an unfair bump over the 9.4. The price seems to reflect that.

   Of course, the loss of the 160k buyer has to have hurt this book as well.

2. The Marvel Mystery Comics #9 result was right where I figured it would end up. A gorgeous book and a stellar result.
3. $15,535.00 for the MT 10 Wolverine Limited Series #1. Think about that for a few minutes as you make your way through your day.

   Me? I'm thinking about the cases of that book I used to have access to.

4. If that doesn't shake your brain to its core, try 11,950.00 for a CGC MT 9.9 X-Men 141. I love that book, but… wow! That's a lot of money for a book that likely still exists in unopened cases. Those later Byrne X-Men were hoarded. I'd be really scared to have that much money in one of those books. What happens if a 10 comes along?

   Still, a very cool book!

5. Proof that I won't own an unrestored Detective Comics #27 any time soon came in the form of an $83,650 price tag for a 1.5. That sets the bar for basically every other unrestored copy at over $100,000.

   I guess I'll be dreaming about a restored copy. Still, I can't complain- it couldn't happen to a better book.

Based on that Detective 27 result and the previous Action #1 1.8 result I added every copy of each above 2.0 in the Census to the $100,000 club. I also added all the qualifying (or near qualifying) Heritage results.

X-MEN #137 CGC 9.8 White Pages

Common. Yes. Hoarded. I can guarantee it. All that said, I still like the book.

X-Men 1 PGX 9.0 Unrestored -1st X-Men 1963 – CGC it – eBay

Up for auction is a PGA (now known as PGX) graded copy of X-Men #1 from 1963. This is the first appearance of the X-Men, Magneto and is a major piece of comic book history.

This book is UNRESTORED and has been graded a 9.0. That's right – 9.0 Unrestored. There are very few copies of X-Men 1 in this high grade and the price just keeps going up for the few high grade copies that do exist.

The PGA case is perfect with no flaws. The book itself has no writing on it or date stamps.

PGA Notes: "X-Men #1 VF/NM 9.0 Minor oxidation along edges of cover. Light tan to Off-White Pages. Marvel 9/63. Jack Kirby art. 1st appearance of Magneto. Origin/1st appearance of X-Men, Cyclops, Beast, Professor X, Angel, Marvel Girl, Iceman. Graded 11/04.

The minor oxidation is just that – minor – and does not detract from the beauty of the book at all. Please see the pictures below – the comic in the pictures is the comic you will receive. Sorry about the glare.

By the way, the CGC GPA average in grade is $11,750, albeit with 2+ year old results, so this is a reasonable result for a PGX book.

Description:

From X-Men (1st series) #132, circa 1980, the original art to the 5th story page. Pencils by John Byrne, Inks by Terry Austin. Autographed by both artists and by writer Chris Claremont.

If you were a fan of the X-Men in those days, you know the significance of this page. No full page splash, no super-villain battle, just a quiet lull before the storm that became the Dark Phoenix saga.

Some explanations. The page is too big for my scanner, so I scanned it one area at a time. Because of this method the individual scans show a pinkish tinge that I believe is an effect of some light bleeding around the edges during the scan. My friend the Comiclord combined the 3 scans for me for the full page view. I've also included a scan of the published page and the copyright notice from the back.

Condition wise – the edges of the piece are a little rough, but there is no damage in the area of the artwork. The page is also showing some slight browning. There are no creases or folds.
