Filter does it again and he just misses the ebay record list.

Winning bid:	US $25,100.00 Seller: filter81 ( 734 )

Description:

In this auction you are bidding on X-men 1 CGC 9.0 VF/NM. This issue features the 1st appearance of the X-men and Magneto! This is the comic that started an entire franchise! This issue is very difficult to find in high grade (and its even more difficult trying to find someone willing to sell a copy in high grade) and this copy currently ranks in the top 2% of all X-men 1s graded by CGC!

According to GPA, the last time a CGC 9.0 sold in public auction was for $33,333 in August '09. (Though another 9.0 sold more recently on a private website for $37,500!)

With X-men: First Class (centered around the origin of the X-men and Magneto) due to hit Theaters in 2012, this comic is about to get hot! And with Wolverine 2 and X-men 4 already in the planning stages after that, the X-men franchise looks like it will continue to be in the spotlight for years to come. With the 1st appearance of Spider-man already selling for well over 6 figures in similar grade, the value of this book has nowhere to go but up!

And the book:

Comiclink has a Featured Auction ending this week. Not that they've exactly flown under the radar, but we've all been paying just a little bit of extra attention. Time to give CL some love:

AMAZING FANTASY #15 CURATOR PEDIGREE CGC 9.0 VFNM

This will clearly be the headline book as Amazing Fantasy continues to generate ridiculous results. $135,000 as of this writing.

X-MEN #1 CGC 9.4

So is a 9.4 X-Men #1 really a 100k book? This one is at 70k right now.

INCREDIBLE HULK #1 CGC 9.0 VFNM

I'll never tire of Hulk #1. Apaprently neither will collectors.

SHOWCASE #4 CGC NM- 9.2

This won't sell for what it should. Showcase #4 needs to see some of the love that Showcase #22 has seen over the past few years so that it can get it's rightful place near the top of the Silver Age tables back. It's never going to tbe the #1 book again, or even #2, but it should be a strong #3.

SUPERMAN #1 CGC 2.0

It'll be interesting to compare results on this and Heritage's copy.

DETECTIVE COMICS #1

A book I love. I'll never tire of that red cover.

I shudder to think what this book will sell for, especially since I was in the market for a copy in this range a few years ago

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #17 CGC 9.8

Obscene amount of money? Maybe. Anything for a Spider-man book is too much in my opinion (I kid!)

Gorgeous, no?

I went through the catalog yesterday. I limited myself to picking twelve lots of interest to share with you guys. It was tough because this is an auction full of some interesting material. The Joe Kubert lots themselves could have produced a decent set of 12 items to ogle.

The Incredible Hulk #1 (Marvel, 1962) CGC NM- 9.2

This is clearly the book of the auction. I don't get excited easily by Silver Age marvels, but this book brings a smile to my face. It's tough to find in high grade and it's the HULK.

Hulk smash!

As of this writing it sits at $45,000. Still plenty of room for a thrill bid, I think.

Superman #14 (DC, 1942) CGC VF- 7.5 White pages

Easily one of the top five covers of all time, Superman 14 is a great "slab" book and this copy appears to present extremely well. Hopefully it goes to a good home.

Detective Comics #12 Mile High pedigree (DC, 1938) CGC NM 9.4

A Flessel covered, early Detective from the Edgar Church collection in an almost supernatural state of preservation? You need me to expand on that?

I would love to see the reaction of this book at one of the larger CGC forum dinners. It would be like feeding time at the shark tank. People would line up to get a peek.

Showcase #22 Green Lantern (DC, 1959) CGC VF/NM 9.0

A $30,000 book? $50,000? An 8.0 sold for nearly $20,000 recently, so what does this, one of the three highest graded, sell for?

And what would a 9.2+ do right now? If someone is sitting on a pristine cop of this book, now is the time to bring it to market.

A 9.4 would be a $100k book.

Bernie Wrightson Eerie #62 Cousin Eerie Inside Front Cover

Wrightson's Eerie work is incredible. These days it's not as appreciated as his work for DC, but it's just incredible stuff. This is a prime example.

Joe Kubert Star Spangled War Stories #156 Unknown Soldier Hitler Mask Cover Original Art

A very memorable cover for me. It was tough to pick just one Kubert item to feature, but this one is so striking it won the race.

Bernie Wrightson Frankenstein Published Plate Illustration Original Art

An original Frankenstein plate. Those make me sit up and take notice. Not the greatest plate from the book, but considering the fact that each one if basically a masterpiece, even the "worst" plate in the book is something to cherish. This would be a great Christmas gift for me, just in case you were wondering.

Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers Journey Into Mystery #84 Second Appearance of Thor Splash Page Original Art

An instantly recognizable image for me. I was a big Thor fan for a little while when I was a kid, so I've got about the first 10 issues committed to memory.

Alex Ross Marvels Trade Paperback Painted Cover Original Art

I don't even like Spider-Man all that much and I absolutely love this cover. That's due to Ross and the Marvels association, of course- it's a phenomenal image for the trade cover. Perfect, really.

John Buscema and Dan Adkins Sub-Mariner #8 Sub-Mariner vs. the Thing Cover Original Art

A memorable battle cover. I love the image of the Thing- especially the way his hand obscures the logo.

Dave Cockrum and Terry Austin X-Men #125 Cover Original Art

I forget how good this run was. And then I see a cover like this and I remember back to being a kid and reading this stuff for the first time. Brilliant superhero comics.

Ron Wilson and John Romita Sr. Avengers #125 Cover Original Art

I've always loved this cover. It screams "Bronze Age Marvel" to me- in a good way. I love the menace of Thanos in this image.

I'm also a sucker for the Cosmic Marvel characters in general.

…

So, that's me, what about you guys? What's cool?

It's not in the list yet. I have to research the other 9.4s before I add the tier into the list- does anyone have any info on the other 9.4s?

The result by itself is interesting, of course, but it's probably most important because it puts the value of the books above it into clearer discussion. Considering the 9.6s (when there were two) sold for right around 100k a few years, we're definitely looking at some kind of appreciation. I'm just not sure how much. And what of the top (non upgraded) 9.8? What's that worth now?

Description:

X-Men #11 CGC NM+ 9.6
(Marvel Publications – May, 1965) White pages
Certification #0009444007

Only a single copy ranks Higher on the CGC Census
With perfect white pages, this is the best 9.6 you can buy.

First appearance of The Stranger!

A superb copy that features a sensational cover by Jack Kirby

About the condition:
A beautiful, bright and fresh copy with deep color strike, full gloss, excellent centering, near flawless spine and edges, and page quality that is perfect White. The book looks newsstand fresh – Simply amazing!

Note:

The top edge is fantastic – But there is glare from the gloss. So NO, there is no wear or color scuffs. If it were to be pressed, the top edge would look sensational. No worries – CGC is really tough on books like this.

It seems like The Showcase 4 basically made 9.5 money. 179k is nothing to sneeze at, but it's only 19k more than the 9.4 sold for at ComicConnect. I know people were skeptical about the grade, feeling it had gotten an unfair bump over the 9.4. The price seems to reflect that.

Of course, the loss of the 160k buyer has to have hurt this book as well.

The Marvel Mystery Comics #9 result was right where I figured it would end up. A gorgeous book and a stellar result.

$15,535.00 for the MT 10 Wolverine Limited Series #1. Think about that for a few minutes as you make your way through your day.

Me? I'm thinking about the cases of that book I used to have access to.

If that doesn't shake your brain to its core, try 11,950.00 for a CGC MT 9.9 X-Men 141. I love that book, but… wow! That's a lot of money for a book that likely still exists in unopened cases. Those later Byrne X-Men were hoarded. I'd be really scared to have that much money in one of those books. What happens if a 10 comes along?

Still, a very cool book!

Proof that I won't own an unrestored Detective Comics #27 any time soon came in the form of an $83,650 price tag for a 1.5. That sets the bar for basically every other unrestored copy at over $100,000.

I guess I'll be dreaming about a restored copy. Still, I can't complain- it couldn't happen to a better book.

Based on that Detective 27 result and the previous Action #1 1.8 result I added every copy of each above 2.0 in the Census to the $100,000 club. I also added all the qualifying (or near qualifying) Heritage results.

Best Offer	US $11,125.00 Seller:	elph29( 342)

Up for auction is a PGA (now known as PGX) graded copy of X-Men #1 from 1963. This is the first appearance of the X-Men, Magneto and is a major piece of comic book history.

This book is UNRESTORED and has been graded a 9.0. That's right – 9.0 Unrestored. There are very few copies of X-Men 1 in this high grade and the price just keeps going up for the few high grade copies that do exist.

The PGA case is perfect with no flaws. The book itself has no writing on it or date stamps.

PGA Notes: "X-Men #1 VF/NM 9.0 Minor oxidation along edges of cover. Light tan to Off-White Pages. Marvel 9/63. Jack Kirby art. 1st appearance of Magneto. Origin/1st appearance of X-Men, Cyclops, Beast, Professor X, Angel, Marvel Girl, Iceman. Graded 11/04.

The minor oxidation is just that – minor – and does not detract from the beauty of the book at all. Please see the pictures below – the comic in the pictures is the comic you will receive. Sorry about the glare.

By the way, the CGC GPA average in grade is $11,750, albeit with 2+ year old results, so this is a reasonable result for a PGX book.

And here is that book:
