High eBay Comics Item for the Week Ending 2010.10.30 (Superman #1)

Superman 1 CGC 8.5 VF+ DC 1939 Action Comics EP

20th biggest comic sale on my eBay List

Winning bid: US $35,100.00 Seller: filter81 (842)

Description:

For sale in this auction is one of the holy grails of comic book collecting! In this auction you are bidding on Superman 1 CGC 8.5 VF+ (1939) with light tan pages. Superman 1 is currently the 3rd most valuable comic book in the world behind Action 1 & Detective 27, with a VF+ guide value of $293,750. (And an actual unrestored 8.5 would easily sell for over $1,000,000 in today's environment.) In fact, the only thing stopping this particular copy from selling for over $1,000,000 is the fact that it has been professionally restored! The restoration includes spine rebuilt, heavy color touch, pieces added, cleaned.

This comic being auctioned off is the second highest graded copy of Superman #1 that has ever been certified by CGC. Superman #1 is notorious for being difficult to find in nice shape and is very possibly the most difficult of all the mega-keys to find in VF or better condition. To date, no unrestored copies have ever graded higher than VF, and only one restored copy has ever graded slightly higher than this one at 9.0. (And that copy is locked away in a private collection and will probably not be sold any time soon!) Restoration aside, that makes this the single highest graded copy of this comic that will likely ever be offered for sale at any time in the forseeable future! So if you are a high grade collector (or simply don't have several hundred thousand dollars to buy a nice unrestored copy) take note, because this is a unique opportunity that may not come along again!!!

This book is being offered for sale on consignment, so any questions regarding payment terms etc need to be asked in advance before bidding!

And the book:

Five for Friday (Adam Hughes Serenity, James Jean, Action #2, Hero Initiative, 1st Lana Lang)

Interesting week. A huge book, blended with some interesting entertainment crossover original art.

Five For Friday: (Superman #1, X-Men #1, Leifeld, McFarlane, Arthur Adams)

Superman #14 Cover to be Auctioned at ComicConnect in December

Comic Connect is going to sell the cover to Superman #14. Out of all the original comic book art that’s known for a fact to exist, this is (in my mind) the greatest piece of art in the world. And even factoring in some pieces that probably don’t exist, it still in the conversation for one of the most significant pieces of art in the world of comics. With the exception of the biggest Golden Age keys and some of the Marvel 1st appearances, there’s probably no other cover that can compare in terms of history, iconic imagery, and character.

It's simply a perfect golden age cover.

There will be a reserve on this lot (set by Jerry Robinson.) Bidding opens November 10, and the auctions start closing on December 1, 2010.

There's still time to sell the house!

I Guess I'm Getting Jaded.

Because I haven't even mentioned these two books:

Comic Connect to Offer Action #1 CGC 8.5 For Sale

Word on the street (okay, word on the internet) is that Comic Connect bought outright the 8.5 from its present and longtime owner. The price paid is reportedly more than the 1,075,000 paid for the Detective 27 at Heritage last month. It follows, therefore, that that asking price will be significantly higher than that. My estimate for the book after the recent sales was 1.5 million. We'll see how that number fares when it actually comes time for the book to change hands.

All I have to say is- what a month! My head is spinning.
