John Totleben Miracleman #15 Cover Original Art

This will sell for crazy cash. Pieces like this scare me. While it's a classic issue of one of the best comic series of the 1980s, it's not exactly current. You can't even read this story without shelling out big bucks. Not exactly a futureproof purchase. Maybe some day they'll be reprinted and the world will be a better place.

I would be interested in a few of these. The lost? Not so much. Many of these books would be basically unsellable. Why slab them?

In case you're wondering what I be interested in, I've bolded the books I'd definitely take a run at if they were separated out?

The following are two Silver Age books that I absolutely love.

Green Lantern #1 (DC, 1960) CGC NM 9.4

Green Lantern's recent meteoric rise bums me out. I was buying some Green Lanterns, and then, along came the movie blowing prices up on the really good stuff. Case in point, this book. This exact copy sold for 18,975.00 at Heritage in 2003. Recently, a 9.2 of this book sold for $30,450.00. What does that result mean for this 9.4? Hopefully some crazy number north of $50k.

The Incredible Hulk #1 (Marvel, 1962) CGC VF- 7.5

I like think of Hulk #1 as an honorary DC. Not the character, I can't think of a more "Marvel" character than the Hulk, but the book itself. It's tough. The census numbers are very reminiscent of the Silver Age DC key and not like most of the other the Marvel keys at all. There are just a handful of nice copies out there.

This one isn't particularly nice, but it's still nice enough to feature. Especially since I do have a Hulk bias… I love that guy.

This will clearly be the headline book as Amazing Fantasy continues to generate ridiculous results. $135,000 as of this writing.

X-MEN #1 CGC 9.4

So is a 9.4 X-Men #1 really a 100k book? This one is at 70k right now.

INCREDIBLE HULK #1 CGC 9.0 VFNM

I'll never tire of Hulk #1. Apaprently neither will collectors.

SHOWCASE #4 CGC NM- 9.2

This won't sell for what it should. Showcase #4 needs to see some of the love that Showcase #22 has seen over the past few years so that it can get it's rightful place near the top of the Silver Age tables back. It's never going to tbe the #1 book again, or even #2, but it should be a strong #3.

SUPERMAN #1 CGC 2.0

It'll be interesting to compare results on this and Heritage's copy.

A book I love. I'll never tire of that red cover.

I shudder to think what this book will sell for, especially since I was in the market for a copy in this range a few years ago

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #17 CGC 9.8

Obscene amount of money? Maybe. Anything for a Spider-man book is too much in my opinion (I kid!)

Gorgeous, no?

Oh, look, another list. This one is based off of a Google search I saw, so there's at least one person out there wondering what the most valuable slabbed books are. As always, I want to hear feedback on these books. Is there anything I missed? How would you rank them? Please feel free to share in the comments.

All American #16 Church CGC 9.4

Well, it didn't end up selling for $1,000,000, but the mere fact that serious negotiations (and they were serious) were going on at that levels means, to me at least, this is the top dog in terms of graded books.

Action #1 CGC 8.5

Yes, even with the rusty staples, this is one of the nicest copies of the best book in the hobby, so it's got to be high up on the list. If a 6.0 can sell for $300,000 this copy has to be worth at least $750,000. The rust might drive the price down a little bit, but even still it would be the number two book on this list.

Detective Comics #27 CGC 8.0

A $278k book the last time it sold, this is the best copy of the second best book in the hobby and is valued accordingly. I have to think this copy would sell for well over $500,000 right now.

Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 9.6

I'd personally be afraid to buy this book at its full value of $500,000 to $600,000. While Spider-Man is one of the great characters in the hobby, I'd be paranoid of a new copy appearing at 9.6 or better lowering the value of this "top dog." Of course, if no other challengers appear (and none have over the ten years of CGC,) then the owner of this particular copy is sitting pretty.

Action #1 CGC 7.5

A VF or better Action #1 is a rare, rare thing. Even rarer is one for sale. If this book, which sold for a paltry 192k in 2002 came back up for sale I wouldn't be surprised if it sold for two or three times that number.

Superman #1 Mile High/Edgar Church CGC 8.0

Another book with a bit of a stigma attached. This copy sold for $170,000 many years ago to much fanfare.

Thing is, it had some work done on it to some interior pages. At the time that didn't reall matter, it was a gorgeous copy of one of the most desirable books in the hobby from the best pedigree.

Then along came CGC's Purple colored label for Restored books. AKA The Purple Label of Death (PLOD.)

The value destroying power of the PLOD meant before it was slabbed, that work was removed in order to get a Blue (universal) label. That, in turn, makes the book less of a pure unrestored copy in some people's minds. Because of that I'm only slotting it here, in 6th. It's still worth well more than twice what Bechara paid for it all those years ago and is one of the nicest books I've ever seen in person.

Fantastic Four #1 CGC 9.6

Another one of the nicest books I've seen in real life. this copy was involved in a trade and was valued at the time for $425,000. While I normally turn my nose up at trade "values" I'm actually more than comfortable with that number and slot it in here at #7 accordingly.

Detective Comics #27 CGC 7.5

There's something to this Batman guy, I think. This high grade copy of his first appearance would likely tip the scales in the $350-400,000 range.

Captain America Comics #1 CGC 9.6

This book sold for $250,000 to the one guy most likely to pay big bucks for it, so while I feel it's appreciated in value, I don't feel like it's made the same jump some of the other books on this list have over the past 6 or 7 years. Still, this book would have to be valued at $325-375,000.

X-Men #1 Curator Pedigree CGC 9.8

There are two 9.8s. This one has a clear psychological edge over the Pacific Coast 9.8, because that book was once in a 9.6 holder. A 9.4 copy of X-Men #1 just sold for over $100,000 so I'd think this book would end up selling for more than $300,000.

So that's it. Agree? Disagree? Let me know in the comments!

This is not a copy – it is the original First Appearance of Iron Man from 1963! It is the ONLY SIGNED Tales of Suspense 39 – in the CGC census above the grade of 7.0! Below you can see that this comic is the stand alone highest graded signed copy of TOS 39. Truly a one of a kind investment. This 1963 comic is not only signed – but it is signed TWICE! Signed by the story writer Stan Lee and artist Gene Colan. Stan Lee is the brilliant writer attributed with much of the Intellectual Property that is now considered Marvel Comics. Gene Colan is an artist that also goes back to the very origins of Marvel. It is very doubtful another comic this high of a grade will ever be signed and graded this high ever again! This comic is very beautiful and I included many pictures to showcase for you the sharp corners and complete lack of creases. Really the cream to off-white pages are the only thing keeping this comic from grading MUCH higher!

This amazing comic is the first ever appearance of Iron man and is a classic marvel cover which many people recognize.

This Comic went up significantly in value after the Iron Man movie came out and there is another movie slated for release in May 2010 and a third has already been signed for!

The plastic case is in perfect condition and it comes bagged and packaged very well. Insurance is included for free with this auction!

I have a 100% feedback score and have been an ebay member for several years. For this comic you must pay through paypal. I hold your money for about a week to verify you are not going to reverse the transaction (sorry, I know it's a pain but this mag is worth a lot of money! So I'm sure you can understand my need to verify the transaction as authentic. For this mag an in-person exchange is NOT possible. Check out my feedback So you know I'm good for such a dollar value look at the $8000 Amazing Spider-man #1 I sold recently; not to mention all of the bullion transactions!

Note that I do allow a time payment plan for this magazine. Also this is NOT a Must Sell (or an emergency sale) so don't bother trying to send me offers, the only one I will accept is listed above and is very fair given the rarity of this piece of art.

Get this one of a kind mag before it's gone!

I went through the catalog yesterday. I limited myself to picking twelve lots of interest to share with you guys. It was tough because this is an auction full of some interesting material. The Joe Kubert lots themselves could have produced a decent set of 12 items to ogle.

The Incredible Hulk #1 (Marvel, 1962) CGC NM- 9.2

This is clearly the book of the auction. I don't get excited easily by Silver Age marvels, but this book brings a smile to my face. It's tough to find in high grade and it's the HULK.

Hulk smash!

As of this writing it sits at $45,000. Still plenty of room for a thrill bid, I think.

Superman #14 (DC, 1942) CGC VF- 7.5 White pages

Easily one of the top five covers of all time, Superman 14 is a great "slab" book and this copy appears to present extremely well. Hopefully it goes to a good home.

Detective Comics #12 Mile High pedigree (DC, 1938) CGC NM 9.4

A Flessel covered, early Detective from the Edgar Church collection in an almost supernatural state of preservation? You need me to expand on that?

I would love to see the reaction of this book at one of the larger CGC forum dinners. It would be like feeding time at the shark tank. People would line up to get a peek.

Showcase #22 Green Lantern (DC, 1959) CGC VF/NM 9.0

A $30,000 book? $50,000? An 8.0 sold for nearly $20,000 recently, so what does this, one of the three highest graded, sell for?

And what would a 9.2+ do right now? If someone is sitting on a pristine cop of this book, now is the time to bring it to market.

A 9.4 would be a $100k book.

Bernie Wrightson Eerie #62 Cousin Eerie Inside Front Cover

Wrightson's Eerie work is incredible. These days it's not as appreciated as his work for DC, but it's just incredible stuff. This is a prime example.

Joe Kubert Star Spangled War Stories #156 Unknown Soldier Hitler Mask Cover Original Art

A very memorable cover for me. It was tough to pick just one Kubert item to feature, but this one is so striking it won the race.

Bernie Wrightson Frankenstein Published Plate Illustration Original Art

An original Frankenstein plate. Those make me sit up and take notice. Not the greatest plate from the book, but considering the fact that each one if basically a masterpiece, even the "worst" plate in the book is something to cherish. This would be a great Christmas gift for me, just in case you were wondering.

Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers Journey Into Mystery #84 Second Appearance of Thor Splash Page Original Art

An instantly recognizable image for me. I was a big Thor fan for a little while when I was a kid, so I've got about the first 10 issues committed to memory.

Alex Ross Marvels Trade Paperback Painted Cover Original Art

I don't even like Spider-Man all that much and I absolutely love this cover. That's due to Ross and the Marvels association, of course- it's a phenomenal image for the trade cover. Perfect, really.

John Buscema and Dan Adkins Sub-Mariner #8 Sub-Mariner vs. the Thing Cover Original Art

A memorable battle cover. I love the image of the Thing- especially the way his hand obscures the logo.

Dave Cockrum and Terry Austin X-Men #125 Cover Original Art

I forget how good this run was. And then I see a cover like this and I remember back to being a kid and reading this stuff for the first time. Brilliant superhero comics.

Ron Wilson and John Romita Sr. Avengers #125 Cover Original Art

I've always loved this cover. It screams "Bronze Age Marvel" to me- in a good way. I love the menace of Thanos in this image.

I'm also a sucker for the Cosmic Marvel characters in general.

…

So, that's me, what about you guys? What's cool?
