Memorable? Understatement. Might be one of the most memorable splashes from the 1980s. Part of a significant set of Miracleman art listed in this auction. If you've ever wanted a page, now is your time.

Frank Miller and Klaus Janson Daredevil #181 page 16 Original Art (Marvel, 1982)….

I mean this in the best possible way, but this page is all Bernie Krigstein. Classic issue and teh sillouhette in the fourth panel is classic stuff.

John Totleben Miracleman #15 Cover Original Art

This will sell for crazy cash. Pieces like this scare me. While it's a classic issue of one of the best comic series of the 1980s, it's not exactly current. You can't even read this story without shelling out big bucks. Not exactly a futureproof purchase. Maybe some day they'll be reprinted and the world will be a better place.

I would be interested in a few of these. The lost? Not so much. Many of these books would be basically unsellable. Why slab them?

In case you're wondering what I be interested in, I've bolded the books I'd definitely take a run at if they were separated out?

The Kansas City Action #1 CGC VF 8.0 is listed as Sold on the Comic Connect site.

It's the first publicly reported sale over $1,000,000 of a comic book.

It's actually the first publicly reported sale over $500,000, but who's counting?

The price is stronger than what I feel the book is worth (by about 25%), but I'm happy to be wrong in this situation. $1,000,000 is a nice round number that will generate a lot of press. Press= good for the hobby (as long as any new people stay away from the books I want to collect )

With the speed of the sale, it's clear to me that there's a possibility that this transaction was prearranged or even consummated long before the book was even announced. Comic Connect would have been smart to do so, so as to guarantee the maximum exposure and publicity for the sale and to protect against a protracted, potentially embarrassing (if it went on long enough) $1,000,000 listing with no takers.

Here it is, the belle of the ball.

I went through the catalog yesterday. I limited myself to picking twelve lots of interest to share with you guys. It was tough because this is an auction full of some interesting material. The Joe Kubert lots themselves could have produced a decent set of 12 items to ogle.

The Incredible Hulk #1 (Marvel, 1962) CGC NM- 9.2

This is clearly the book of the auction. I don't get excited easily by Silver Age marvels, but this book brings a smile to my face. It's tough to find in high grade and it's the HULK.

Hulk smash!

As of this writing it sits at $45,000. Still plenty of room for a thrill bid, I think.

Superman #14 (DC, 1942) CGC VF- 7.5 White pages

Easily one of the top five covers of all time, Superman 14 is a great "slab" book and this copy appears to present extremely well. Hopefully it goes to a good home.

Detective Comics #12 Mile High pedigree (DC, 1938) CGC NM 9.4

A Flessel covered, early Detective from the Edgar Church collection in an almost supernatural state of preservation? You need me to expand on that?

I would love to see the reaction of this book at one of the larger CGC forum dinners. It would be like feeding time at the shark tank. People would line up to get a peek.

Showcase #22 Green Lantern (DC, 1959) CGC VF/NM 9.0

A $30,000 book? $50,000? An 8.0 sold for nearly $20,000 recently, so what does this, one of the three highest graded, sell for?

And what would a 9.2+ do right now? If someone is sitting on a pristine cop of this book, now is the time to bring it to market.

A 9.4 would be a $100k book.

Bernie Wrightson Eerie #62 Cousin Eerie Inside Front Cover

Wrightson's Eerie work is incredible. These days it's not as appreciated as his work for DC, but it's just incredible stuff. This is a prime example.

Joe Kubert Star Spangled War Stories #156 Unknown Soldier Hitler Mask Cover Original Art

A very memorable cover for me. It was tough to pick just one Kubert item to feature, but this one is so striking it won the race.

Bernie Wrightson Frankenstein Published Plate Illustration Original Art

An original Frankenstein plate. Those make me sit up and take notice. Not the greatest plate from the book, but considering the fact that each one if basically a masterpiece, even the "worst" plate in the book is something to cherish. This would be a great Christmas gift for me, just in case you were wondering.

Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers Journey Into Mystery #84 Second Appearance of Thor Splash Page Original Art

An instantly recognizable image for me. I was a big Thor fan for a little while when I was a kid, so I've got about the first 10 issues committed to memory.

Alex Ross Marvels Trade Paperback Painted Cover Original Art

I don't even like Spider-Man all that much and I absolutely love this cover. That's due to Ross and the Marvels association, of course- it's a phenomenal image for the trade cover. Perfect, really.

John Buscema and Dan Adkins Sub-Mariner #8 Sub-Mariner vs. the Thing Cover Original Art

A memorable battle cover. I love the image of the Thing- especially the way his hand obscures the logo.

Dave Cockrum and Terry Austin X-Men #125 Cover Original Art

I forget how good this run was. And then I see a cover like this and I remember back to being a kid and reading this stuff for the first time. Brilliant superhero comics.

Ron Wilson and John Romita Sr. Avengers #125 Cover Original Art

I've always loved this cover. It screams "Bronze Age Marvel" to me- in a good way. I love the menace of Thanos in this image.

I'm also a sucker for the Cosmic Marvel characters in general.

…

So, that's me, what about you guys? What's cool?

I'm happy with both purchases. I've never actually owned a Green Lantern #1. That won't be my last copy, of course. I'm going to need a high grade copy to round out the run I've started working on, so there's be something a little more expensive in my future. Still I love #1s and keys so even a beater GL #1 is nice to have.

"Q: I am very familiar with the story of this pedigree. Only two copies of AF 15 were in the original White Mountain set but one remained ungraded and was sold at an estate auction by accident by an owner's trustees. The other copy had previously been sold for 150,000. Your copy will be worth at minimum double that amount. Please e-mail me as my company would like to acquire it. We are interested in flying you and the item to our Dallas office to see the item. I have sent you an e-mail with the details. Your response is greatly requested."

"A:Hi E.J. – I am sorry, I've made it firm that this item will remain as a true auction. Please play fair, and bid like the others. I had a buy-it-now option at the beginning of the listing, however it was not utilized, and so true bidding was enabled when someone placed a bid. Best of luck in your bidding."
