Highlights from the May 2011 Heritage Auction

Frank Miller and Klaus Janson Batman: The Dark Knight #3 Batman and Robin Iconic Splash Page 10 Original Art

You thought I was going to start somewhere else? I don't care what anyone else thinks… To me this page is the best piece of comic art from the 1980s I've ever seen for sale and is one of the best possible pages from the entire decade. Simply amazing.

Five for Friday (Jae Lee, Pacific Coast Fantastic Four, Gary Frank, Captain America 6, Michael Turner)

This was a strange week. A lot of good, raw, material- but not so much that really knocked my socks off.

Oh well, on with the show.

Michael Turner Original art Ballistic Issue #3 pg23-24

Turner really burst onto the scene back in the day. This page, from his first series, shows why. He worked in a popular style, but managed to have his own flourishes that really set him apart. He also had a great design sense. Oh, and he was a solid artist. He was stylized, certainly, but underneath everything he could really draw. That set him apart from a lot of guys that were starting out back then.

He's missed.

JAE LEE X-Men: Apocalypse/Dracula #4 Cover!

A Jae Lee cover up for auction AND it's for charity? Bid!

FANTASTIC FOUR 89 , CGC 9.4 , PACIFIC COAST

An old label Pacificc Coast Fantastic Four… hrm… There may be some interest.

GARY FRANK SUPERMAN COVER Original Comic Art

Talk about solid artists… Gary Frank is crazy good. There, I said it.

Captain America Comics #6 Rare Bucky Origin Father TIme

Not a bad looking copy. Technically not all that high grade, but it presents really well. Will make someone very happy, I think.

Some Highlights from the November 2010 ComicLink Auction

As a note, for me personally, this is one of the toughest auctions in recent memory in terms of knowing where to place my bids. I could probably bid on 50 books in this auction. I've got it narrowed down to probably six, but it's hard to choose.

Sigh.

Anyway, here are some other books that you should know about:

ARCHIE COMICS #1

Interested in an Archie #1? Just go all in right now. They're not going to get any cheaper. Go back in time and buy one five years ago.

And get a Pep #22 while you're at it.

Archie.

DAREDEVIL #1 NM+ 9.6 Curator

I'd like to see the 9.8, but… that sure is a pretty copy.

Based on the above listing the consignor of the Curator copy just got the 9.8. Upgrading from a 9.6, pedigree copy. How often does that happen?

Beauty and the Beast

These both arrived today:

beauty1 the-beast

Yes, a GD- (according to Heritage, at least) Green Lantern #1 next to a gorgeous Pacific Coast Green Lantern 42. Quite a pair.

I'll be reading the GL #1 tonight.

Speaking of Pairs

I won two books on Sunday night for roughly the same price:

Green Lantern #1 (DC, 1960) Condition: GD-

and

Green Lantern #42 CGC 9.2 Pacific Coast

I'm happy with both purchases. I've never actually owned a Green Lantern #1. That won't be my last copy, of course. I'm going to need a high grade copy to round out the run I've started working on, so there's be something a little more expensive in my future. Still I love #1s and keys so even a beater GL #1 is nice to have.

Yeah, I've been moving away from the whole high grade Marvel thing for years now.

And I'm not the world's biggest Spider-Man fan.

But this book is still cool:
