Five for Friday (TMNT #1, All Select 7, Frank Miller, Blood is the Harvest, Batman 31)

This is a weird week. Nothing that really grabs me. That's rare.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 cgc 9.4 White 1st print

I'll never tire of this book. I remember seeing it on the shelves. I didn't buy it.

All Select Comics #7 WWII Cover Golden Age – Timely

This is a book that screams "Golden Age" to me. There are a lot of different ways a person can approach Golden Age comics and one of the funnest is through the lens of the hyperkinetic Timely war cover.

Frank Miller Daredevil #172 Bullseye Kingpin Page

This is a page that wouldn't work nearly as well as a piecce of history, but might work better as a piece of art if it were produced in the modern era. All those dialog balloons take away from what could be a gorgeous black and white page. But… the dialog balloons have their own interest and the actual dialog is cool. Interesting page.

Blood is the Harvest Rare High Grade 1950’s

Okay, so this one kind of grabs me. Not a book I'd buy, but I've always been fascinated by this one.

Batman #31 VF 8.0 white pages Alfred story DC 1945

That's one cool cover.

Five for Friday

Well, if I had a hard time coming up with five last week, this week was just the opposite. What a crazy collection of books on offer this week.

Adventure Comics 40 CGC 8.5 VF+ EP 1st app Sandman RARE

Filter81 leads off this week with Adventure 40. Sure it's EP, but it's an Adventure 40. Not too many of those come up for sale, so it's a treat to see them whenever they do appear.

JACK KIRBY SILVER SURFER GRAPHIC NOVEL ORIGINAL ART

That Jack Kirby guy was pretty good. A Kirby page with the Surfer on it- I approve.

Incredible Hulk 4 CGC 9.2 NM- OW/W Marvel High Grade

I have a soft spot for Hulk 1-6. I never collected the later series, but I love Hulk #1-6.

MICHAEL GOLDEN DOCTOR STRANGE 55 ORIGINAL ART

This is truly classic Michael Golden art. I love Doctor Strange when he's done well, and for my money Doctor Strange 55 is basically as good as it gets. Just check out the page in question:

Detective Comics #225 DC 1955 Batman 1st App Martian M.

Fact: if you list a Detectivve 225 on eBay I will list it in Five for Friday.

Five for Friday (Jae Lee, Pacific Coast Fantastic Four, Gary Frank, Captain America 6, Michael Turner)

This was a strange week. A lot of good, raw, material- but not so much that really knocked my socks off.

Oh well, on with the show.

Michael Turner Original art Ballistic Issue #3 pg23-24

Turner really burst onto the scene back in the day. This page, from his first series, shows why. He worked in a popular style, but managed to have his own flourishes that really set him apart. He also had a great design sense. Oh, and he was a solid artist. He was stylized, certainly, but underneath everything he could really draw. That set him apart from a lot of guys that were starting out back then.

He's missed.

JAE LEE X-Men: Apocalypse/Dracula #4 Cover!

A Jae Lee cover up for auction AND it's for charity? Bid!

FANTASTIC FOUR 89 , CGC 9.4 , PACIFIC COAST

An old label Pacificc Coast Fantastic Four… hrm… There may be some interest.

GARY FRANK SUPERMAN COVER Original Comic Art

Talk about solid artists… Gary Frank is crazy good. There, I said it.

Captain America Comics #6 Rare Bucky Origin Father TIme

Not a bad looking copy. Technically not all that high grade, but it presents really well. Will make someone very happy, I think.

Five for Friday: (Archie #3, Albedo #2, Daredevil #43, Marko Djurdjevic art, Superman #30)

Albedo #2, First Usagi Yojimbo, Limited to 2,000!

I bet you thought I was going to lead with the Archie, didn't you. I love this book- tough to find, great cover and a great characters.

Archie #3 Scarce 1943

PGX 1.5 with tan pages… And now you know why I didn't lead with it! Of course, it'll still sell.

Daredevil #43 CGC 9.6 8/68 Silver Early Issue

One of my five favorite Daredevil books. I've got a nice 9.4, but this one is sweet :)

Spider-Man:Original art by Marko Djurdjevic

Just a crazy piece of art. Really cool.

SUPERMAN 30 Davis Crippen Pedigree Copy D 1944 Cgc 8.5

I've got a thing for yellow covered Superman books from the 1940s.

Five For Friday (Action #2, Funny Pages, Showcase #9, TTA #27, Richie Rich #1)

Ooh, a special Christmas eve edition… As an added bonus, I'm going to bid on one of these books. Care to guess which?

Action Comics 2 DC Comics CGC 4.0

You thought I would lead with something else? 2nd Superman appearance? Snazzy.

Showcase 9 CGC 4.0

I have a soft spot for the early, secondary (tertiary?) Showcase books. This and the Challengers issues are very cool.

FUNNY PAGES V3 #10 RARE 2ND ARROW CVR TARPE MILLS STORY

Centaurs are a huge mystery to me. There, I admitted it.

Tales to Astonish #27 First Antman CGC Blue 4.5

I know it's a stretch to call this a superhero key, but I don't really care. It's always been a key to me and it will remain so, no matter what logic dictates.

Richie Rich #1 (Harvey, 1960) authentic, unrestored

This used to be a top ten silver age book. No longer, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't pay attention to it. A classic book, if you ask me.

Five for Friday (Bryan Hitch, Wonder Woman #2, Milo Manara, Michael Golden)

Hitch/Guice – NEW AVENGERS FINALE Art WOLVERINE Splash

Hitch doesn't reproduce well on the internet any more. The textures of his work, especially with Guice inking, are too small for pixels to deal with. this piece is likely a stunner in person.

Five for Friday (Pep Comics 31, Sandman, V For Vendetta, Paul Pope, Batman Inc Splash)

A day late. Sorry! I was down in Miami Beach last week for Art Basel and have been scrambling since to get back on the horse with content production around my many sites. Anyway, here goes…

PEP COMICS #1 1940 CGC FN+ 1ST SHIELD $4K+ GUIDE! HOT!

I don't actually pay much attention to the pre-Archie Peps, so I coulddn't tell you whether or not this is actually a hot book. Still, it's a Pep #1 and it's on eBay. I'll pay attention.

Neil Gaiman SANDMAN #31 page FANTASTIC!

Original art sold with the writer's name and not the artist. Such is the life of many a Neil Gaiman collaborator. Shawn McManus is the artist here, by the way. Great page.

Batman Inc #1 art, Morrison Paquette, Catwoman splash!

I dug Batman Inc #1. Did you? It reminded me of All Star Superman, in a way. It wasn't quite the exuberant masterpiece that the Superman book was, but it had a lot of the same elements of wonder and of a title being reborn in the hands of one of comics greatest writers.

Anyway, this was a memorable splash from a memorable book.

David Lloyd V for Vendetta Original Comic Art Page

Do you really need me to comment on this one?

PAUL POPE KAMANDI PIN UP – ORIGINAL COMIC ART

If you don't know Paul Pope, you really should. That is all.

Five for Friday (Usagi Yojimbo, STARTLING COMICS#49, Miller Daredevil, BETTY & VERONICA 1, Showcase 6)

Lots of PGX and Robojo33 listings this week, crowding out the stuff I want to promote. Sigh.

STARTLING COMICS#49 CGC 8.0!! SCHOMBURG MASTERPIECE!!

Startling #49 is truly one of the great Golden Age covers.

Frank Miller & Klaus Janson Daredevil #187 p.23 No Res!

Yes, it's more Janson than Miller. Who cares? It's still a page from one of the best runs on the title and one of the most influential runs of all time. Sure, it won't go for as much as a page that was more Miller than Janson, but that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a bit of spotlight,

BETTY & VERONICA 1(7.0)TOP TWO GRADE,OW-Wpages

Neat book. Nice shape and I can't imagine there are many others out there to choose from.

Showcase #6 – Origin 1st Challengers CGC 5.5 $1000+

I'm a sucker for this book.

Original art from Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo comic art)

And finally, the coolest piece of the week Sakai is a great artist, Usagi Yojimbo is a great character and it's a charity auction. What more do you need?

Five For Friday (Miracleman Hardcover, Phile Hale, Bruce Timm, Bryan Hitch, All American 17)

This is an interesting week, for my tastes at least. Sometimes I choose five items that are interesting to the wider collecting world which might not be that interesting to me personally. All of these are items that I'd be happy to call my own.

Miracleman Book 3 Olympus Hardcover 1st Print NM+ 1990

I don't know that I've ever actually seen this book in person. If I have seen it, I don't remember it. I owned the softcover. I felt weird about how much I sold it for.

Me, in my head:

"but… this is a reprint… I know it's out of print, but… it's a reprint!"

PHIL HALE BADHAIR PAINTING

Phil Hale is a phenomenon. He "gets" action the same way Frazetta did.

BRUCE TIMM Original Comic Book Cover: Worlds Finest #1

Timm is great. Greater than great. That is all.

captain america reborn hitch original art page red skul

Hitch is one of my five favorite current artists. Wonder why? Look at this page

Who are the others? Frank Quitely, Travis Charest (although he's basically just a cover artist at this point,) and then it gets tougher. Let's say Steve Mcniven and J. H. Williams III? It's tough. 10 would be easier after the first three (Assuming we count Travis, since he doesn't have much in the way of interiors right now.)

All-American Comics #17 CGC 4.5 2nd Green Lantern app

Not the right Green Lantern for all the hype, but… It's All American 17 on eBay.
