High eBay Comics Item for the Week Ending 2010.5.15 (James Jean Fables Cover)

James Jean FABLES 69 Painting Original Cover Art

Winning bid: US $8,306.00 Seller: comiconart!! ( 3187 )

Description:

Condition: excellent – archivally framed

COMMENTS: This is a fantastic original painted cover by modern master James Jean! Over the course of his landmark seven year run as the cover artist for Fables, James amassed an impressive FIVE consecutive Eisner Awards for Best Cover Artist, as well as countless other awards and accolades. Since ending his run on Fables with the cover to Fables 81, James has devoted his time to persuing a career in fine art. Judging by his sold out solo show "Kindling" at Jonathan Levine Gallery in January of 2009, and his recent exhibition of new work at the Giant Robot anniversary show at the Japanese American National Museum, it's clear to see that James wastes no time in rising to the top!

This particular cover is a fully painted piece for the penultimate issue of "The Good Prince"! Created at the beginning of his final year on Fables, this piece is an excellent indication of the direction in which James would be heading. With similar subject matter, and executed in a similar style to the work exhibited in his first solo fine art show, this piece deftly bridges the gap between comic art and contemporary fine art. The painting itself measures 15" x 22", acrylic on Rives BFK, and the painting has been archivally framed next to a full-size giclee print of the final published artwork, also signed and dated by James Jean. It truly does not get much better than this!

I am happy to combine shipping on multiple wins and website purchases!

Comic Connect to Offer Action #1 CGC 8.5 For Sale

Word on the street (okay, word on the internet) is that Comic Connect bought outright the 8.5 from its present and longtime owner. The price paid is reportedly more than the 1,075,000 paid for the Detective 27 at Heritage last month. It follows, therefore, that that asking price will be significantly higher than that. My estimate for the book after the recent sales was 1.5 million. We'll see how that number fares when it actually comes time for the book to change hands.

All I have to say is- what a month! My head is spinning.
