Five for Friday (TMNT #1, All Select 7, Frank Miller, Blood is the Harvest, Batman 31)

This is a weird week. Nothing that really grabs me. That's rare.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 cgc 9.4 White 1st print

I'll never tire of this book. I remember seeing it on the shelves. I didn't buy it.

All Select Comics #7 WWII Cover Golden Age – Timely

This is a book that screams "Golden Age" to me. There are a lot of different ways a person can approach Golden Age comics and one of the funnest is through the lens of the hyperkinetic Timely war cover.

Frank Miller Daredevil #172 Bullseye Kingpin Page

This is a page that wouldn't work nearly as well as a piecce of history, but might work better as a piece of art if it were produced in the modern era. All those dialog balloons take away from what could be a gorgeous black and white page. But… the dialog balloons have their own interest and the actual dialog is cool. Interesting page.

Blood is the Harvest Rare High Grade 1950’s

Okay, so this one kind of grabs me. Not a book I'd buy, but I've always been fascinated by this one.

Batman #31 VF 8.0 white pages Alfred story DC 1945

That's one cool cover.

Five for Friday (Adam Hughes, Hulk #340 McFarlane Art, JRjr, Paul Pope, Jim Starlin Catpain Marvel Art)

All original art this week. I'm not sure that's ever happened before.

Captain Marvel #30 page 27 Jim Starlin Original Art

I'm curious what the reserve is for this one and what the final price will be. That's a great page from Starlin. All it's missing is Thanos and it'd be a perfect Starlin panel page. Still, even without Thanos, the top and bottom panels are enough to warrant a big price tag.

Looking at the The February 2011 Heritage Auction

It's that time again. Another killer Heritage auction is queued up for our bidding pleasure.

You know, no matter what the other auctions do the most exciting listings of the year are always Heritage's. That's just the reality.

This auction is no exception.

Let's look at some lots.

Archie Comics #1 (MLJ, 1942) CGC VF+ 8.5 White pages

Clearly the most exciting single comic in the auction for me. Early Archies are tough in high grade. This white paged beauty is about to lighten some lucky bidder's wallet in a big way.

John Byrne and Terry Austin X-Men #116 Cover Original Art

I've always liked this cover. It's a classic "comic book" cover. There's some Schomburg style danger and it's great tease to the story within. This is going to sell for many thousands of dollars.

Detective Comics #31 (DC, 1939) CGC GD+ 2.5 Off-white pages

One of the all-time classic covers.

Frank Miller and Klaus Janson Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #3 page 24 Original Art

Just seeing this page makes me want to read the whole book.

It's really interesting to see the adjustments that were made to the published page.

Five for Friday: (Archie #3, Albedo #2, Daredevil #43, Marko Djurdjevic art, Superman #30)

Albedo #2, First Usagi Yojimbo, Limited to 2,000!

I bet you thought I was going to lead with the Archie, didn't you. I love this book- tough to find, great cover and a great characters.

Archie #3 Scarce 1943

PGX 1.5 with tan pages… And now you know why I didn't lead with it! Of course, it'll still sell.

Daredevil #43 CGC 9.6 8/68 Silver Early Issue

One of my five favorite Daredevil books. I've got a nice 9.4, but this one is sweet :)

Spider-Man:Original art by Marko Djurdjevic

Just a crazy piece of art. Really cool.

SUPERMAN 30 Davis Crippen Pedigree Copy D 1944 Cgc 8.5

I've got a thing for yellow covered Superman books from the 1940s.

Five for Friday (Usagi Yojimbo, STARTLING COMICS#49, Miller Daredevil, BETTY & VERONICA 1, Showcase 6)

Lots of PGX and Robojo33 listings this week, crowding out the stuff I want to promote. Sigh.

STARTLING COMICS#49 CGC 8.0!! SCHOMBURG MASTERPIECE!!

Startling #49 is truly one of the great Golden Age covers.

Frank Miller & Klaus Janson Daredevil #187 p.23 No Res!

Yes, it's more Janson than Miller. Who cares? It's still a page from one of the best runs on the title and one of the most influential runs of all time. Sure, it won't go for as much as a page that was more Miller than Janson, but that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a bit of spotlight,

BETTY & VERONICA 1(7.0)TOP TWO GRADE,OW-Wpages

Neat book. Nice shape and I can't imagine there are many others out there to choose from.

Showcase #6 – Origin 1st Challengers CGC 5.5 $1000+

I'm a sucker for this book.

Original art from Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo comic art)

And finally, the coolest piece of the week Sakai is a great artist, Usagi Yojimbo is a great character and it's a charity auction. What more do you need?

Some Highlights from the November 2010 ComicLink Auction

As a note, for me personally, this is one of the toughest auctions in recent memory in terms of knowing where to place my bids. I could probably bid on 50 books in this auction. I've got it narrowed down to probably six, but it's hard to choose.

Sigh.

Anyway, here are some other books that you should know about:

ARCHIE COMICS #1

Interested in an Archie #1? Just go all in right now. They're not going to get any cheaper. Go back in time and buy one five years ago.

And get a Pep #22 while you're at it.

Archie.

DAREDEVIL #1 NM+ 9.6 Curator

I'd like to see the 9.8, but… that sure is a pretty copy.

Based on the above listing the consignor of the Curator copy just got the 9.8. Upgrading from a 9.6, pedigree copy. How often does that happen?

Yes, There's Now a Daredevil #1 CGC 9.8 in the Census and There Are 3 9.6s for Sale This Month.

It's Daredevil #1 month, apparently.

I have no real info on the 9.8, other than what everyone else has. I will tell you it's on the $100,000 club list.

Failing a scan of the 9.8, here are scans of the three 9.6s for sale right now so we can all compare and contrast.

ComicLink

For my money, this is the best copy of the bunch. All three are nice, solid copies, but this one just looks like a jaw-dropper. Assuming there's been no slab damage (it is an old holder) this would be the one I'd be going for if I were bidding on one of these babies.

Five for Friday (P. Craig Russell, Daredevil #1, Showcase #6, SOTI, Sandman)

Some interesting listings this week. I'm a big fan of the above cover.

Original BATMAN cover by P. Craig Russell

Just a great image. Everything you want from PCR. Would look phenomenal framed.

Showcase 6 CGC 5.5 OW/W Pages

I've never owned this book. Just sayin'

(no, I'm not bidding on it. There are about $50,000 worth of Daredevils I'm trying to sort through bidding on between ComicLink and Pedigree this month, so whatever I target amongst those is going to be my entire comic budget)

Daredevil 1 CGC 9.2 NM- Stan Lee Everett Jack Kirby

There are a lot of Daredevil #1s available right now. Really nice ones. Hopefully Filter will get a good price for his. Clearly people in the market for a 9.6 aren't going to go after a 9.2 so he's probably got a shot.

SANDMAN #1 Page 11 Original Art – NEIL GAIMAN SAM KIETH

Not the best Sandman page…. BUT, it's a page from #1. That's pretty cool.

Seduction of the Innocent, first, with bibliography

A great piece of comic book history.

Highlights from the Heritage November Signature Auction

This, of course, is the biggest book of the auction. Crazy that it could be a Bronze Age book but that's the hand we're dealt.

Not that I'm complaining. I'm a fan.

Anyway, on with the show:

Journey Into Mystery #106 White Mountain pedigree CGC NM 9.4 Off-white pages

There are several White Mountain books in this auction. Old labels even. Nice books. Here's hoping there's no SCS.

Let me use this opportunity to remind people that I would really, really, really, really like to buy white mountain Daredevils. Got any? Know where any are? Lemmeknow!

Show and Tell: Silver Age Daredevils

Just thought I'd share a few more books from my collection. It's fun talking about what other people are buying, but I'm plugging away at my own corner of the universe and that's even more fun for me.

Daredevil 43 CGC 9.4
