Rare Silver Age art from one of the greatest comic artists of all time. Only two pages of Wood Daredevil art are on ComicArtFans.com (one being Eric Roberts' cover to #5) and none are from the key issue #7.

Pedigree sold the 3rd nicest Fantastic Four #1 tonight for $143000.00. I really had no idea where it would end up, so I'm not sure what my reaction is. I would have liked it to sell closer to the record for an AF15 (190k), but that's just because I'm an unrepentant Fantastic Four fan boy.

The focus here is on American mainstream comics. I have no apologies for that These are in no order. They are, however, presented with plenty of love for a decade chock full of good comics.

Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' Sleeper

Comprising Sleeper: Season One and Sleeper: Season Two, this series went way too far under the radar. It was clearly one of the best superhero efforts of the decade, although at the end of the day it was more cloak and dagger than capes and cowls. Thankfully both Phillips and Brubaker went on to become fancy, big-selling stars for Marvel after finishing up this classic. I just wish a few more people had been able to check out Sleeper when it was running. It was tough talking into a vacuum.

Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' Criminal

Criminal took the Noir aspects of Sleeper, jettisoned the superhero aspects and distilled a pure drauft of crime drama. I have an affinity for their source material and love these two guys as individual talents so I was basically made to love this book.

Breaking News! I Still Get Excited By Daredevil #1 Even After Having Owned a Ton of Them.

While it's not the White Mountain copy and will therefore not force me to dig around in my change drawer for the funds to purchase it, it is a fancy copy of one of my favorite books of all time. I also haven't featured one of Doug's books in a while so I figured I'd point out this beauty:

Is this a $50,000 book now? Seems about right.

Because, hell, it's a Daredevil #1. That's a damn fine book It's also Filter81 and I'm always happy to see him at the top of the tables.

I just got the catalogue for Sotheby's June 26, 1993 Comic Books and Original Art auction. What a fantastic selection! I just ran through the catalogue briefly on the treadmill this morning and I came across a few notables (including a book that I really, really, really want to get my hands on):

• The Original Art for the Covers to Watchmen 1-12. Do I need to comment? What a display that would make in my living room.
• The Marvel Comics #1 Pay Copy. Yes the famous "$1,000,000" book. As a note to anyone that thinks that CGC cornered the market on strict grading, the book (a CGC VF/NM) was graded at VF 84 at the time of this sale…
• Neal Adams' cover to Superman #233.
• The #2 set of Gaines File Copies
• The White Mountain Amazing Fantasy #15. Memorable for being the the first $10,000 Silver Age book.
• The White Mountain Fantastic Four #1. Again an example of tight grading before CGC came along. All grades (they offer several opinions) fall below the CGC NM- 9.2 that the book currently sports. A truly beautiful copy though. Just a stunner.
• and finally… The White Mountain Daredevil #1, a book that I would kill to own.

Beyond even the quality of the book itself (and as you can see below it's a beauty), I have a soft spot for the White Mountain pedigree. The White Mountain books were big news when I was a young Marvel Zombie and it was also a local story for me (Weist lived 10 minutes away from me at the time.) To add to that, the White Mountain books I currently own (including a gorgeous Daredevil #9) are amongst the nicest books in my collection, so…. I want this:

I bought a page from Lapham's recent Punisher/Daredevil series recently. I received the package today and in addition to the page itself, I got this great little sketch:
