Take a peek above…

Jon J. Muth Moonshadow Watercolor Page – Gorgeous!!!

Some part of me still thinks off painted art as "new." I have co-workers younger than this painted art…

CAPTAIN AMERICA COMICS #1 Golden Age Comic Book GD 2.0

For real? A raw Captain America #1? Fun times.

Avengers 12.1 cover art Hitch Spider-man Wolverine Thor

Hitch is bad-ass. You know this.

KENT WILLIAMS original PUNISHER painting art

I don't think I've ever seen this image.

1974 JIM STARLIN CAPTAIN MARVEL #30 PG. 23 COMIC ART

You know I love Starlin's Marvel cosmic comics. I'll always share.

Ashley Wood – Popbot Original Painting

Ash Wood is so much fun. His art is great.

Ed McGuinness! Iron Man! She-Hulk! Hulk! Shield! Wow!

Dynamic! It's not even an action page but Ed McGuiness just does dynamic in his sleep.

All Select #11 Blonde Phantom Cover High Grade- Timely

Always a favorite book.

Avengers #93 CGC 9.4 Neal Adams Marvel Captain America

Another favorite and I don't feature enough bronze age books here. Rectified.

Five for Friday (Ron Lim, Arabic Superman, McFarlane Spider-Man, Sam Kieth Sandman, Chris Ware)

The Original Arabic Superman Collection 1964-1975

Can someone explain this to me? What are these? Why are they worth so much money? Is this all a dream?

Silver Surfer 48 pg 22 Thanos Galactus splash Ron Lim

You knew this was coming, didn't you?

AWESOME MCFARLANE SPIDERMAN ORIGINAL ART PAGE!

Here's one to balance out the power cosmic splash page above. I have no interest in this myself, but I know other people would dig it, so here it is…

SANDMAN #5 Page 6 Original Art SAM KIETH & NEIL GAIMAN

This is a really great page. I think it would be an excellent standalone page to hang up in your house. It's somehow complete. Very cool.

Chris Ware – original "Jimmy Corrigan" artwork – 1999

I'm not exactly a "fan" of Ware, but I really appreciate what he does so I thought I should share this one.

Five for Friday

ORIGINAL COMIC PAGE STEVE DITKO HULK #6 PAGE 3 1963

HULK SMASH.

He didn't really talk that way at this point. He just more of a jerk, than a dumb, SMASHING brute. Cool page, yo.

ACTION COMICS #24 ~ Vintage Superman Comic ~ CGC 8.0

Early Action Comics on eBay. You know I'm going to link to that.

Iron Man 55 CGC 9.8 NM/M White pg 1st Thanos Starlin

I should get a nice 9.4 of this book. I've got no interest in playing the 9.8 game here, but a nice 9.4 would do me nicely. (Runs to GPA) $400? Heck yeah. That's a plan.

HULK Issue 396 page #13 by DALE KEOWN

Two hulk pages on on Friday. I'm game. Especially since they're at the far end of the spectrum in terms of style. I loved Keown's run on this book. It was a blast each and every month.

WOLVERINE/WITCHBLADE #1 Pg.15 M. TURNER ORIGINAL ART!!!

I link to Mike Turner's art. 'nuff said.

Five for Friday (McKean, Lim, McFarlane, Batman #1, Frank Miller)

RON LIM Original Art Drawing SILVER SURFER VS THANOS

I'm a fan of the artist and the characters so there it is. You now know why I featured it first :)

BLACK ORCHID #1 P 32 ORIGINAL ART BY DAVE MCKEAN NO RES

Early McKean. That was a hot book for a few months a long time ago. Just thought you should know…

Batman #1 Spring 1940 Attractive CGC 2.0 Recent Find

Feast your eyes on an unrestored Batman #1. Even with the rusty staple, that's an appealing option for a lot of people.

Todd McFARLANE Detective #576 BATMAN YR 2 Battle Pg NR!

While Year 2 is no Year 1, I do have a soft-spot for the work McFarlane did on this series.

Frank MILLER WOLVERINE Mini-Series #2 Page No Reserve

And the flood of Miller art begins? Might be time to finally take the plunge and buy something from Daredevil.

Five for Friday (Jim Lee, Jim Starlin, David Finch, Alex Ross, Mike Turner)

All art this week. As a change of pace, I'm going to just let the images do the talking.

MIKE TURNER FATHOM WIZARD COVER ORIGINAL ART ASPEN

Five for Friday (Eric Powell, George Perez, Star Wars #1 35 Cent Variant, Alex Ross, SIMONE BIANCHI)

GODZILLA #1 COVER PAINTING BY ERIC POWELL

Killer image. Just fantastic. Take a look at it up there. Well worth whatever price it sells for, if you ask me.

Alex Ross MARVELS Original Art Galactus & Silver Surfer

I would love to own a page from this series. My birthday is coming up soon.

I'm just sayin

BATMAN #652 COVER ART BY SIMONE BIANCHI

I think Bianchi is great, so I figured I ought to share.

George Perez 1981 TEEN TITANS #8 Original Comic Art

To me, this is the era you want for George Perez. This is when I remember him being at his best. He's remained really good, of course, but his work in the early to mid 1980s was so damn "big."

STAR WARS 1 35 CENT PRICE VARIANT MARVEL 1977 1st PRINT

I will never tire of this book.

Five for Friday (Adam Hughes, Hulk #340 McFarlane Art, JRjr, Paul Pope, Jim Starlin Catpain Marvel Art)

All original art this week. I'm not sure that's ever happened before.

Captain Marvel #30 page 27 Jim Starlin Original Art

I'm curious what the reserve is for this one and what the final price will be. That's a great page from Starlin. All it's missing is Thanos and it'd be a perfect Starlin panel page. Still, even without Thanos, the top and bottom panels are enough to warrant a big price tag.

Looking at the The February 2011 Heritage Auction

It's that time again. Another killer Heritage auction is queued up for our bidding pleasure.

You know, no matter what the other auctions do the most exciting listings of the year are always Heritage's. That's just the reality.

This auction is no exception.

Let's look at some lots.

Archie Comics #1 (MLJ, 1942) CGC VF+ 8.5 White pages

Clearly the most exciting single comic in the auction for me. Early Archies are tough in high grade. This white paged beauty is about to lighten some lucky bidder's wallet in a big way.

John Byrne and Terry Austin X-Men #116 Cover Original Art

I've always liked this cover. It's a classic "comic book" cover. There's some Schomburg style danger and it's great tease to the story within. This is going to sell for many thousands of dollars.

Detective Comics #31 (DC, 1939) CGC GD+ 2.5 Off-white pages

One of the all-time classic covers.

Frank Miller and Klaus Janson Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #3 page 24 Original Art

Just seeing this page makes me want to read the whole book.

It's really interesting to see the adjustments that were made to the published page.

Heritage November 2009 Auction- 12 Lots of Note.

I went through the catalog yesterday. I limited myself to picking twelve lots of interest to share with you guys. It was tough because this is an auction full of some interesting material. The Joe Kubert lots themselves could have produced a decent set of 12 items to ogle.

hulk1-cgc-9.2

The Incredible Hulk #1 (Marvel, 1962) CGC NM- 9.2

This is clearly the book of the auction. I don't get excited easily by Silver Age marvels, but this book brings a smile to my face. It's tough to find in high grade and it's the HULK.

Hulk smash!

As of this writing it sits at $45,000. Still plenty of room for a thrill bid, I think.
