Five for Friday (Strange Adventures #1, Kelley Jones Sandman, Batman 608 RRP, Adi Granov, New Adventures 23)

Strange Adventures #1 CGC 7.0 FN/VF Universal

I always link to these. I guess I'm a fan.

KELLEY JONES Sandman #22 p6 ORIGINAL ART Neil Gaiman

While Sam Kieth never looked like "Sam Kieth" on Sandman, Kelly Jones sure as hell (har) did. This is a very memorable page from him during a classic arc on one of the biggest books of all-time.

Batman 608 CGC 9.8 HUSH RRP Variant NM+/M

Nearly $2500 with 8 days to go. I wonder if it's got a chance for $3k (high GPA for this book.)

ADI GRANOV! CAPTAIN AMERICA! HAIL HYDRA! COVER!

Adi Granov is great. He's like one of the European greats in style, but he's doing American Super Hero comics. I'll take it.

New Adventure Comics #23 VG 1938 very rare! Gerber 8

Not your average eBay book.

TALES OF SUSPENSE #39 CGC 8.5 UNIVERSAL 1ST IRON MAN!!

Sold For:$12,600.00 Seller: dark_knight27 ( 251 )

Description:

TALES OF SUSPENSE #39 CGC 8.5 UNIVERSAL

Up for auction is an unrestored copy of the 1st appearance and origin of Iron Man!!! The book displays nicely and is in an Old Label, which means that the book was probably NEVER Pressed and it has a great shot for a page quality upgrade to at least Offwhite Pages. These old labeled slabs are getting more and more sought after and much harder to find especially on a key book. I have provided large and clear scans for your viewing

This book is one of the hotter Silver Age books currently in the market right now and it keeps going up yearly! With 2 successful movies under its belt and a third one coming out sometime 2013, this book is definitely a great investment! Not to mention the Avengers movie coming out mid-2011! Robert Downey Jr. portrayed as Tony Stark/Iron Man may be the best actor ever portrayed in a comic book movie. Get this book now before prices sky high even more!

All throughout last year, I have recorded some key sales with this book to help you determine its value and its potential. As you can see below, each grade point in the 8.5 range and up at least doubles in value!!! The most recent sale of a CGC 8.5 sold for $13,000 then $13,450 a month after at two separate auction sites!

The Book:

Five for Friday (Absolute Planetary, Frank Miller, TOS 49, Daredevil 7, Chris Ware)

Daredevil 7 CGC 9.2 NM- 1st red costume High Grade!

10+ years into the CGC era and this remains a difficult book to find in high grade. It's a real favorite around these parts AND filter is selling it- what's not to love?

ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY, Volume 1: SUPER-RARE!!!

I learned a lesson with this one- BUY ABSOLUTE BOOKS WHEN THEY COME OUT. I'm super happy to have my Planetary set.

Frank Miller Dark Knight Batman drawing NM no resv

A rather nice image, don't you think? Not exactly this, but it'll be a lot cheaper.

TALES OF SUSPENSE #49 CGC NM- 9.2 WHITE1ST X-MEN X-OVER

There's a lot to like about this book. Iron Man + X-Men = oooh, aaaah, oh wow.

Chris Ware Original Art Page from JIMMY CORRIGAN/ACME

I don't seek it out, but I can't remember seeing any Chris Ware art on eBay before. Maybe I just missed it?

High Value eBay Comics Auction For the Week Ending 2011.2.19 (Captain America #1)

Captain America Comics 1 CGC 6.0R SS Stan Lee Joe Simon

Rob Says: I just want to point out that this makes my blood boil. I don't even know if Stan Lee was even working for Timely at this point. If he was, he had nothing to do with the creation of Captain America. So… having him sign a copy of this book is just vandalism and calling him a "creator" alongside Joe Simon is just another in a long line of insults aimed at the late, great Jack Kirby. Stan is great, don't get me wrong. I just hate the compound effect his own hype machine and the void left by Kirby's passing creates in the mind of the public.

Sold For:$15,000.00 Seller: r0b3m4n (234)

Description:

You are bidding on an impressive looking Captain America Comics #1 CGC 6.0. It has been permanently Authenticated by the CGC as signed by creators Stan Lee and Joe Simon. This comic has the restoration note: "color touch, pieces added, tear seals, cleaned" I can see no color touch up through the case. The comic has no other notes. It's amazing to see how clean this piece of American history is for its age (looks even better in person!). In the CGC census below there are a total of 101 Captain America Comics #1's registered!! (compare that to 1381 copies of Amaz Fant 15, 1761 copies of amz spidey 1, 142 copies of Batman 1, and 88 copies of superman 1) This comic is agreed upon by collectors as ranking in the top 10 for most valuable comics of all time! THIS IS THE ONLY ONE ON EBAY – AND FROM WHAT I CAN TELL THE ONLY ONE FOR SALE ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET THAT IS SIGNED BY A CREATOR!!! (but if you find another let me know :-)

The Book:

Five for Friday (TMNT #1, All Select 7, Frank Miller, Blood is the Harvest, Batman 31)

This is a weird week. Nothing that really grabs me. That's rare.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 cgc 9.4 White 1st print

I'll never tire of this book. I remember seeing it on the shelves. I didn't buy it.

All Select Comics #7 WWII Cover Golden Age – Timely

This is a book that screams "Golden Age" to me. There are a lot of different ways a person can approach Golden Age comics and one of the funnest is through the lens of the hyperkinetic Timely war cover.

Frank Miller Daredevil #172 Bullseye Kingpin Page

This is a page that wouldn't work nearly as well as a piecce of history, but might work better as a piece of art if it were produced in the modern era. All those dialog balloons take away from what could be a gorgeous black and white page. But… the dialog balloons have their own interest and the actual dialog is cool. Interesting page.

Blood is the Harvest Rare High Grade 1950’s

Okay, so this one kind of grabs me. Not a book I'd buy, but I've always been fascinated by this one.

Batman #31 VF 8.0 white pages Alfred story DC 1945

That's one cool cover.

High Value eBay Comics Auction For the Week Ending 2011.2.5 (Adventure 40)

Adventure Comics 40 CGC 8.5 VF+ EP 1st app Sandman RARE

Sold For:$8,775.00 Seller: filter81 (1044)

Description:

In this auction you are bidding on Adventure Comics #40 CGC 8.5 VF+ with Off-white pages published by DC Comics in 1939. This issue features the 1st appearance of the Sandman and is listed in Overstreet as one of the top 10 most valuable comic books ever published with a top guide value of $115,000! Overstreet also lists this comic as "Rare" and it is actually by far the scarcest of any of the major Golden age keys! To date, only 23 copies of this book have ever been graded by CGC (12 unrestored & 11 restored). No unrestored copies and only 2 restored copies have ever been graded higher than this one. This issue contains work by Jerry Siegel, Bob Kane, and Craig Flessel.

This copy has extensive professional restoration. The CGC label reads "color touch, pieces added, tear seals, cover cleaned, reinforced, reglossed." Adventure Comics 40 is one of the few mega keys in the hobby that can legitimately be considered scarce, and this is without a doubt one of the nicest condition copies on the planet!

According to the latest Overstreet, unrestored guide value in VF+ is $62,500 (though an unrestored VF+ would likely sell for multiples of this number)
