Hi, This auction is for a page of ORIGINAL comic book artwork. The page is from X-Men #105 from 1977. Back of page is copyrighted Marvel Comics 1977. This page is in excellent shape and measures about 10 1/2 X 16 inches. Page shows The Entire Team (Phoenix, Prof X, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Colossus and Banshee). This issue #105 is credited to Dave Cockrum and Bob Layton. This page is signed in last panel by Bob Layton. Early X-Men pages are EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND. I currently have many other Vintage comics listed PLEASE CHECK THEM OUT!!

I nearly called the price on the Star Wars 35 Cent Variant that ended at ComicLink last night.

I'll quote myself:

If a 9.4 sells for $10,000 what’s this worth? $25,000? The Earth shudders.

It ended at a tidy $26,250.

I wish I was always that good.

I went through the catalog yesterday. I limited myself to picking twelve lots of interest to share with you guys. It was tough because this is an auction full of some interesting material. The Joe Kubert lots themselves could have produced a decent set of 12 items to ogle.

The Incredible Hulk #1 (Marvel, 1962) CGC NM- 9.2

This is clearly the book of the auction. I don't get excited easily by Silver Age marvels, but this book brings a smile to my face. It's tough to find in high grade and it's the HULK.

Hulk smash!

As of this writing it sits at $45,000. Still plenty of room for a thrill bid, I think.

Comics Original Art Cover to Captain Marvel #28 Starlin

Description:

Original Art to the Cover of Captain Marvel #28

On the cover, Thanos hovers above Captain Marvel and the dead Avengers, including Iron Man and Captain America. Wonderfully drawn by Jim Starlin, a prime creative force in the Marvel stable of comics talents. Thanos was created by Starlin.

This is a beautiful, key collectible from 70's comic book art. It is archivally mounted and framed and ready to hang for display.

You get the original art, including mounted word balloons and the Thanos acetate, which must have been used for a separate color run to make Thanos's face as part of the background color.

A near mint copy of the comic itself.

A write up on the significance of the work.

Acid free backing board, matte, with UV glass and matching frame.

Note the spelling error on Thanos's word balloon (feel vs. fell). This was corrected before the printing, probably by John Romita who was the Marvel cover reviewer at the time (who would famously redraw the face on Captain Marvel for the next issue, #29). If you find a copy of the Life of Captain Marvel, which reprints the Starlin Captain Marvel's, the reproduction of the cover in there retains the spelling error. Also note the white out that was used to obscure some of the detail of the rubble, I assume to make the colorists life easier.

I don't like reserves, but this a highly prized piece, and a key piece. Also, I don't know really how much shipping will be, we can work that out, but it has to be shipped and packed carefully. I can get insurance if you like as well

And here's the image:

1. It seems like The Showcase 4 basically made 9.5 money. 179k is nothing to sneeze at, but it's only 19k more than the 9.4 sold for at ComicConnect. I know people were skeptical about the grade, feeling it had gotten an unfair bump over the 9.4. The price seems to reflect that.

   Of course, the loss of the 160k buyer has to have hurt this book as well.

2. The Marvel Mystery Comics #9 result was right where I figured it would end up. A gorgeous book and a stellar result.
3. $15,535.00 for the MT 10 Wolverine Limited Series #1. Think about that for a few minutes as you make your way through your day.

   Me? I'm thinking about the cases of that book I used to have access to.

4. If that doesn't shake your brain to its core, try 11,950.00 for a CGC MT 9.9 X-Men 141. I love that book, but… wow! That's a lot of money for a book that likely still exists in unopened cases. Those later Byrne X-Men were hoarded. I'd be really scared to have that much money in one of those books. What happens if a 10 comes along?

   Still, a very cool book!

5. Proof that I won't own an unrestored Detective Comics #27 any time soon came in the form of an $83,650 price tag for a 1.5. That sets the bar for basically every other unrestored copy at over $100,000.

   I guess I'll be dreaming about a restored copy. Still, I can't complain- it couldn't happen to a better book.

Based on that Detective 27 result and the previous Action #1 1.8 result I added every copy of each above 2.0 in the Census to the $100,000 club. I also added all the qualifying (or near qualifying) Heritage results.

A few weeks late? Yeah, probably. but it's still Watchmen art, so there's still a lot to love.

filter81 is clearly the "clean" king of eBay. Batman #1 is an underrated book, by the way. 1st Catwoman. 1st Joker.

X-Men#3 Splashy Magneto art by Jim Lee & Scott Williams

It's amazing to see how far Jim Lee has progressed from this work. There's still a lot of cool energy and dynamism in his earlier work, but he's been getting better all the time.

Of course, I know some of you probably hate him. To that I say- to each his own

STARLIN Warlock # 10 page 14 Adam in all panels WOW

Talk about dynamism. Starlin is the man. Cosmic comics are the top of the heap for me. I love 'em. And Warlock is one of the best cosmic characters.
