Five for Friday (Strange Adventures #1, Kelley Jones Sandman, Batman 608 RRP, Adi Granov, New Adventures 23)

Strange Adventures #1 CGC 7.0 FN/VF Universal

I always link to these. I guess I'm a fan.

KELLEY JONES Sandman #22 p6 ORIGINAL ART Neil Gaiman

While Sam Kieth never looked like "Sam Kieth" on Sandman, Kelly Jones sure as hell (har) did. This is a very memorable page from him during a classic arc on one of the biggest books of all-time.

Batman 608 CGC 9.8 HUSH RRP Variant NM+/M

Nearly $2500 with 8 days to go. I wonder if it's got a chance for $3k (high GPA for this book.)

ADI GRANOV! CAPTAIN AMERICA! HAIL HYDRA! COVER!

Adi Granov is great. He's like one of the European greats in style, but he's doing American Super Hero comics. I'll take it.

New Adventure Comics #23 VG 1938 very rare! Gerber 8

Not your average eBay book.

Five for Friday (Eric Powell, George Perez, Star Wars #1 35 Cent Variant, Alex Ross, SIMONE BIANCHI)

GODZILLA #1 COVER PAINTING BY ERIC POWELL

Killer image. Just fantastic. Take a look at it up there. Well worth whatever price it sells for, if you ask me.

Alex Ross MARVELS Original Art Galactus & Silver Surfer

I would love to own a page from this series. My birthday is coming up soon.

I'm just sayin

BATMAN #652 COVER ART BY SIMONE BIANCHI

I think Bianchi is great, so I figured I ought to share.

George Perez 1981 TEEN TITANS #8 Original Comic Art

To me, this is the era you want for George Perez. This is when I remember him being at his best. He's remained really good, of course, but his work in the early to mid 1980s was so damn "big."

STAR WARS 1 35 CENT PRICE VARIANT MARVEL 1977 1st PRINT

I will never tire of this book.

Five for Friday (Absolute Planetary, Frank Miller, TOS 49, Daredevil 7, Chris Ware)

Daredevil 7 CGC 9.2 NM- 1st red costume High Grade!

10+ years into the CGC era and this remains a difficult book to find in high grade. It's a real favorite around these parts AND filter is selling it- what's not to love?

ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY, Volume 1: SUPER-RARE!!!

I learned a lesson with this one- BUY ABSOLUTE BOOKS WHEN THEY COME OUT. I'm super happy to have my Planetary set.

Frank Miller Dark Knight Batman drawing NM no resv

A rather nice image, don't you think? Not exactly this, but it'll be a lot cheaper.

TALES OF SUSPENSE #49 CGC NM- 9.2 WHITE1ST X-MEN X-OVER

There's a lot to like about this book. Iron Man + X-Men = oooh, aaaah, oh wow.

Chris Ware Original Art Page from JIMMY CORRIGAN/ACME

I don't seek it out, but I can't remember seeing any Chris Ware art on eBay before. Maybe I just missed it?

Five for Friday (TMNT #1, All Select 7, Frank Miller, Blood is the Harvest, Batman 31)

This is a weird week. Nothing that really grabs me. That's rare.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 cgc 9.4 White 1st print

I'll never tire of this book. I remember seeing it on the shelves. I didn't buy it.

All Select Comics #7 WWII Cover Golden Age – Timely

This is a book that screams "Golden Age" to me. There are a lot of different ways a person can approach Golden Age comics and one of the funnest is through the lens of the hyperkinetic Timely war cover.

Frank Miller Daredevil #172 Bullseye Kingpin Page

This is a page that wouldn't work nearly as well as a piecce of history, but might work better as a piece of art if it were produced in the modern era. All those dialog balloons take away from what could be a gorgeous black and white page. But… the dialog balloons have their own interest and the actual dialog is cool. Interesting page.

Blood is the Harvest Rare High Grade 1950’s

Okay, so this one kind of grabs me. Not a book I'd buy, but I've always been fascinated by this one.

Batman #31 VF 8.0 white pages Alfred story DC 1945

That's one cool cover.

Looking at the The February 2011 Heritage Auction

It's that time again. Another killer Heritage auction is queued up for our bidding pleasure.

You know, no matter what the other auctions do the most exciting listings of the year are always Heritage's. That's just the reality.

This auction is no exception.

Let's look at some lots.

Archie Comics #1 (MLJ, 1942) CGC VF+ 8.5 White pages

Clearly the most exciting single comic in the auction for me. Early Archies are tough in high grade. This white paged beauty is about to lighten some lucky bidder's wallet in a big way.

John Byrne and Terry Austin X-Men #116 Cover Original Art

I've always liked this cover. It's a classic "comic book" cover. There's some Schomburg style danger and it's great tease to the story within. This is going to sell for many thousands of dollars.

Detective Comics #31 (DC, 1939) CGC GD+ 2.5 Off-white pages

One of the all-time classic covers.

Frank Miller and Klaus Janson Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #3 page 24 Original Art

Just seeing this page makes me want to read the whole book.

It's really interesting to see the adjustments that were made to the published page.

Five for Friday (Mike Zeck, Bill Sienkiewicz, Detective #34, Norm Breyfogle, Chew #1)

Norm Breyfogle Batman original art, painting

I feel that Norm Breyfogle is one of the all-time great Batman artists.

Now you know.

Happy Snow Day (The USPS Still Delivers)

I got this in the mail today:

I'm a big fan of the Englehart/Rogers run in general and the two-issue "laughing fish" arc in particular. One of these show up on Heritage and I figured- why not. Now I just need a nice #476.

10 Christmas Themed Gold and Silver Age Comic Book Covers

I was looking through the Photo-Journal Guide To Comics the other day and I noticed that Adventure 113 was a Christmas themed cover.

This being the season I thought it would be cool to share a few more Christmas themed covers from back in the day. A little while spent thumbing through the guides and a bit of searching at the Heritage archives later, I present these ten. Hope you enjoy this little tour of comics (holiday) history.

Five for Friday (Pep Comics 31, Sandman, V For Vendetta, Paul Pope, Batman Inc Splash)

A day late. Sorry! I was down in Miami Beach last week for Art Basel and have been scrambling since to get back on the horse with content production around my many sites. Anyway, here goes…

PEP COMICS #1 1940 CGC FN+ 1ST SHIELD $4K+ GUIDE! HOT!

I don't actually pay much attention to the pre-Archie Peps, so I coulddn't tell you whether or not this is actually a hot book. Still, it's a Pep #1 and it's on eBay. I'll pay attention.

Neil Gaiman SANDMAN #31 page FANTASTIC!

Original art sold with the writer's name and not the artist. Such is the life of many a Neil Gaiman collaborator. Shawn McManus is the artist here, by the way. Great page.

Batman Inc #1 art, Morrison Paquette, Catwoman splash!

I dug Batman Inc #1. Did you? It reminded me of All Star Superman, in a way. It wasn't quite the exuberant masterpiece that the Superman book was, but it had a lot of the same elements of wonder and of a title being reborn in the hands of one of comics greatest writers.

Anyway, this was a memorable splash from a memorable book.

David Lloyd V for Vendetta Original Comic Art Page

Do you really need me to comment on this one?

PAUL POPE KAMANDI PIN UP – ORIGINAL COMIC ART

If you don't know Paul Pope, you really should. That is all.

Five For Friday (Superman #1, Batman #1, Conan #1 Art, Adventure 40, Unattributed Keown Art)

Hulk 371 pg20

He might make a few more bucks if he mentioned that it was by Dale Keown.

Superman #1 cgc 7.5 ext (P) OW/White 1939 Original copy

Sure, it's Extensive. Still… it's a Superman #1.

BARRY SMITH!!! Conan #1 page!!! Fight with demon!!!

Conan #1 art. That's super cool.

Adventure 40 cgc 8.0 Moderate (P) cr to ow pgs Sandman!

Tough, key Golden Age book. If it was more sought after it would be through the roof value-wise. Very tough to find.

Batman #1 1940 Golden Age..Nice!

I'm weird in that I think Batman #1 is undervalued. Sue me.
